Summary of Job Duties:

A Mechanical Circulatory Support (MCS) APRN/PA is a highly skilled professional who manages the care of critically ill patients who require MCS.

An Advanced Practice Registered Nurse OR a Physician Assistant will additionally assist the CVICU physicians and MCS-affiliated physicians in the cardiovascular intensive care unit/procedural areas (including, but not limited to, cardiac catheterization/structural/EP labs and OR). APRN/PA will be responsible for rounding on assigned service, managing care of inpatients and outpatients, prescribing medications and treatments as indicated, ordering testing as indicated, and interpreting results of diagnostic testing as indicated. APRN/PA must have a high level of expertise to perform assessments/diagnosis/treatment of actual/potential problems of patients.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

APRN:

  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program with a Master's in Nursing,

  • National certification as an APRN (Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Required)

  • Valid Licenses as a Registered Nurse and APRN by the State of Arkansas

PA:

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program and certification through NCCPA.

  • Valid license as a PA by the State of Arkansas

PLUS:

  • 3 years of experience in a cardiac/critical care setting

  • 2 years of direct ECMO experience

  • Prescriptive authority and a DEA license must be obtained after hire


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Extend the patient care and administrative services of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences physicians.

  • Provide comprehensive health assessments, determine diagnoses, implement treatment plans, prescribe medical treatments, and manage health issues for patients in collaboration with multiple physicians

  • Work autonomously, as well as in collaboration with a variety of individuals to diagnose and manage patients' health care problems; and will serve as a health care resource, interdisciplinary consultant, and patient advocate.

  • Coordinate the multidisciplinary care of patients, facilitating all necessary consults, assuring that care is timely and appropriate.

  • Other duties as assigned
