Summary of Job Duties:

Work Hours: 40 hours/wk. Inpatient with weekends and nights.

The APRN/PA is a skilled healthcare provider who has completed an educational program that provides specialized certification and is regulated by either the Arkansas State Board of Nursing or the Arkansas State Medical Board. An APRN/PA manifests a high level of expertise in assessing, diagnosing, and treating actual and potential health problems of pediatric patients and their families. An APRN/PA possesses an advanced knowledge level, skill, and competence in the provision of care to specific patient and family populations and serves across the care continuum as a clinical resource for patients, families, staff, and the community.


Qualifications:

APRN:

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program with at least a Master’s in Nursing.

  • National Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. May have a certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner in either acute or primary care.

PA:

  • Graduate from an accredited physician assistant program defined by the Arkansas State Medical Board.

  • Current Arkansas Physician Assistant license.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS).

  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct clinical services for patients according to established protocols and utilizing evidence-based clinical practice standards in collaboration with a physician.
  • Obtain patient health histories, complete physical examinations, and interpret hemodynamic data.
  • Document pertinent normal and abnormal findings. Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic and laboratory tests.
  • Formulate and implement a treatment plan for the management of acute and chronic 
    illnesses in collaboration with the physician.
  • Document in medical records appropriately. 
  • Provide family-centered care to meet the child’s health care needs.
  • Utilize current research and evidence-based decision-making in all clinical practice.
  • Participate in staff education, and educate other APRN/PA students, residents, and/or fellows.
  • Provide leadership and professional interaction within your team or to team members.
  • Coordinate with families the care and progress of their child in person, by telephone, or by email as 
    appropriate.
  • Communicate with others with mutual respect and professional demeanor.
  • Adhere to all standard policies and procedures.
  • Participate in QI or research projects as deemed necessary by your department.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
