Position Summary

Washington University School of Medicine is actively recruiting dedicated and skilled Acute Care Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants with critical care training and/or experience to join our dynamic healthcare teams in critical care in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. Come work in an exciting environment where we care for patients with myocardial infarction, severe heart failure, complex valve disease, and cardiogenic shock, in the only hospital in the region which has high volume cardiac transplantation and cardiac assist device programs, and where we provide advanced state-of-the-art and cutting-edge clinical care.

These critical care roles are eligible for a $15,000 sign-on bonus and $5,000 relocation reimbursement, which will be discussed with interviewed candidates. In addition, hires are eligible for additional compensation bonuses tied to productivity and retention.

Position Details:
· Full-time (average 40 hours per week)
· Schedule consists of an average of (3) 12-13 hour shifts per week to include up to 50% nights, weekends, holidays, and paid call
· Flexible scheduling options may be available, including weekend and/or night shift-only options with additional incentives
· Recurring retention bonus given after 12 months of employment and every 2 years thereafter
· Monthly bonus (including productivity and shift differential)
· Annual bonus
· Referral bonus
The advanced practice provider (ACNP/PA) will be employed by the Department of Medicine Cardiovascular Division within Washington University School of Medicine, a top ranked medical school in the country. The ACNP/PA will work at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, a nationally recognized Magnet center and ranked among the nation’s best hospitals by U.S. News & World Report.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct patient care to include obtaining patient history, performing patient assessment via observation, interview, and examination.
  • Orders and interprets the full spectrum of diagnostic tests and procedures, including x-ray, electrocardiogram, hemodynamic monitoring, and laboratory tests.
  • Performs critical care ultrasound.
  • Provides counseling and education of patients and their families/caregivers concerning preventative health, treatment options, and community resources.
  • Formulates differential diagnoses and diagnoses.
  • Plans, implements, and directs treatment and management of patients with acute, critical, and/or complex conditions and evaluates outcomes of care.
  • Documents patient history, physical examination, assessment, and plans of care in patient medical record.
  • Manages health conditions via prescriptive authority or provides referral to other healthcare providers or community resources.
  • Performs diagnostic or therapeutic interventions consistent with certification and state regulations.
  • Performs invasive procedures commonly utilized in the critical care setting.
  • Bills for professional services as permitted by collaborative practice agreement.
  • Supports 24/7 staffing model, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Schedules staff in various critical care settings, including telemedicine.
  • Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with established clinic/hospital standards.
  • Works in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality assurance programs as well as safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Participates in emergency and critical care situations, providing rapid assessment, stabilization, and initiation of treatment for the acutely ill or injured patients 
  • Regularly participates in quality improvement and process improvement activities centered on the goal of providing exceptional, evidence-based patient care. Serves as  clinical expert and leadership consultant to nursing.

$100,700.00 - $181,200.00 / Annually
