Pros
This company is great about respecting its people and encouraging everyone be their authentic self. The accounting team, specifically, is a wonderful group of people who are kind, genuine, and yes, even fun! At Continental, they embrace a flexible work style, letting individual needs drive decisions on work location (in office/hybrid/fully remote) and work schedule. If you need something to do your job better, you need only ask. Career development has a high emphasis here. There is always room for growth -- they will get creative with new positions if there is no clear opening for you to advance. Continental values YOU, not just your work. Work/life balance is always respected, which is not often the case for accountants at other companies/firms. Everyone at Continental is empowered to be the CEO of their own areas. You are encouraged to be innovative and challenge the status quo. Feedback on what the company can do better is regularly gathered through surveys and annual "challenge meetings" where we can openly discuss ways the company can improve. Overall, leadership LISTENS. They have also made significant leaps in their employee resources over the last year or two. They now have a thriving DE&I program that is only getting better. They have enacted special health applications focused on mental health and family planning. They have even made progress in offering paid family leave (not just FMLA), but there is always room for improvement here. Finally, the financial outlook of the company is very positive. They are poised for success even in uncertain economic times. They are consistently looking for new ways to improve the financial position of the company, always asking questions like "What should we start doing?", "What should we improve?", and "What should we stop doing?" Bottom line, it's a great company to work for, and I will always hold my time here in high regard.Cons
While compensation and benefits are good, they aren't extravagant, especially when comparing to other industries and other regions (and now that we can work from anywhere, this matters!). To be clear, this is my perception -- I haven't reviewed extensive data other than what I observed in my transition. I will say from experience that Continental does their best to understand what benefits people care most about and prioritize the top ones to the best of their ability. Put simply, they've got what's most important, but they may not stand out in a crowd. Also, real estate is a challenging industry, especially for accounting/finance. To add even more to that, Continental is a challenging company! They WILL do things a way you've never seen before, which can cause some tension in a role where you are trying to uphold accounting standards or create unique financial models. There are complexities that just don't exist in most other jobs. Some processes are still antiquated due to lack of time and resources to change quickly. It's healthy to be aware of all this, but it certainly doesn't prevent you from succeeding here. Innovators and those who embrace a good challenge will thrive in this environment! We are a diverse group of professionals sharing an uncompromising commitment to the highest standards of ethics and integrity in all of our dealings and in our respect for others - our co-workers, our customers and our vendors. Great careers don’t happen – they’re built. They’re built when talent, ambition, and drive meet in a vibrant working environment.
At Continental, we provide that environment - an environment built through tireless efforts to ensure our team has the right people, with the right skills, taking on exciting challenges. It is reinforced when our people are empowered to do whatever is needed to do the job right. It is solidified when the best and the brightest in the industry are given opportunities to learn new skills, take on bigger challenges, and advance within the organization.
The Continental Cares committee was formed in the spring of 2018 to identify charitable organizations that Continental could partner with as part of our charitable giving campaign. The committee focused on finding charitable opportunities closely aligned with Continental’s core values, beliefs, and work ethic. The three charitable organizations we chose are Revitalize Milwaukee, Ronald McDonald House Charities, and Supporting our Veterans through K9s for Warriors, and Honor Flight.
Continental Cares provides multiple volunteer opportunities throughout the year to our employees. Our hope is that by engaging with our charities, our team will get to see just how much of a difference we are making in our communities and encourage others to join us!
Continental Leads is our leadership development platform which includes two programs. Company of Leaders is the leadership development program designed to equip team members with essential qualities and skills to build a successful career at Continental. Leading Others is the development program focused on preparing our people managers to effectively lead individual contributors and teams.
