None that I’ve experienced as of yet.Guiding Principles: Our Words, Our Deeds, Our Culture
At General Motors, we are committed to fostering an inclusive environment and strive to be the most inclusive company in the world. We believe that each of us has the power to make a positive impact every day, both individually and collectively, by driving meaningful and deliberate change through our words, our actions, and our culture.
Our Words
We firmly believe that it is the responsibility of every individual to speak up in the face of bias and injustice. We will utilize the voice of our company and our brands to actively contribute to the ongoing dialogue, condemning injustice and promoting inclusion.
Our Deeds
We understand that our words must be backed by actions. We will strengthen our existing partnerships and forge new ones to advocate for equality in areas such as social justice, education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
Our Culture
We hold ourselves accountable for setting an example of diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Our guiding principle is to create a fully transparent work environment that is safe, respectful, and collaborative, where everyone feels valued and included.
Inclusion Advisory Board
Based on our longstanding values, our Chairman and CEO, Mary Barra, chairs an Inclusion Advisory Board (IAB) of 11 internal and external leaders who guide our work to improve diversity and inclusion within GM. In addition, she also sits on the Business Roundtable’s Special Committee to Advance Racial Equity and Justice, along with other Fortune 500 company leaders, with the mission to promote broad economic opportunity and mobility solutions through public policy changes.
Employee Resource Groups
We are proud to have a dozen different employee resource groups (ERGs) that play a vital role in nurturing a culture of inclusion. These groups provide support and serve as a platform for employees to express concerns and share their experiences. To learn more about these groups and our inclusive culture, please visit our careers site.
At General Motors, we encourage individuals to create moments that value diverse opinions, backgrounds, and ideas, regardless of their own perspectives. Collaboration, respect, and a shared drive for innovation and success are at the core of our company culture.
Our aspiration is to become the most inclusive company globally. With a team of 165,000 individuals spanning 23 time zones, 5 continents, and speaking 70 languages, we are committed to taking daily steps towards realizing this ambitious vision.
GM proudly supports 12 Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) with chapters across the globe. These ERGs are voluntary and led by employees, serving as valuable resources to foster a diverse and inclusive workplace that aligns with our vision, core values, and our goal of being a Workplace of Choice.
The ERGs play a crucial role in providing business insights that help GM gain a deeper understanding of diverse and emerging consumer markets. They also offer a platform for employees to actively contribute to diversity initiatives within the company. Each ERG has a well-defined business plan that focuses on talent acquisition, talent development, community outreach, and providing support to the business.
Moreover, our ERGs serve as forums for employees to share common concerns and experiences, while also offering professional development support. They provide opportunities for employees to engage with their local communities and make a positive impact beyond the workplace.
GM believes the next generation of innovators will help us challenge the status quo, build a better future, and create a world with zero crashes, zero emissions, and zero congestion. That’s why our early career programs are designed to provide a variety of growth, mentorship, and development opportunities that help you explore different career paths and find the role where you can make the biggest impact.
We bring together research, technology and advocacy for our vision of zero crashes, zero emissions, zero congestion. From our foundational electrical vehicle platform Ultium to the first true hands-free driver assistance technology Super Cruise, we are reimagining mobility. Not just because we want to be 'the first' or the 'the only,' but because we recognize that technology and innovation can change the world. At General Motors, you have the opportunity to reimagine what’s possible by working on projects with the latest technologies while creating the new generation of mobility.
