Overview

We’re a company unlike any other. Even if you don’t know our name, you’ve experienced MITRE’s impact. When you fly. Use GPS. Secure your smart phone.

We make discoveries in science and technology—and make a difference. We tackle threats to the safety, stability, and well-being of our nation. When it comes to making the world safer, our 9,000 mission-driven engineers, scientists, researchers, and analysts are all in.

We’ve got over 65 years of problem-solving experience, from the critical issues you worry about to the ones you haven’t heard of … yet.

How do we accomplish this? Through research and development. Through our network of MITRE Labs. Through collaboration with government, industry, and academia. And by sharing our innovations and solutions.

Work at MITRE

Our diverse community of 9,000 problem-solvers, scientists, engineers, researchers, and analysts chose MITRE for the opportunity to make a difference.

They’re motivated by a career with impact—where a typical day involves tackling the complex challenges facing our nation and the world. That’s a big draw.

How do we serve the nation? We operate federally funded R&D centers, or FFRDCs. These private, not-for-profit organizations were created to serve the public interest. Today, we operate six of only 42 FFRDCs in the United States. We’re trusted advisers to:

  • Department of Defense
  • Federal Aviation Administration
  • Department of Homeland Security
  • Internal Revenue Service, Department of Veterans Affairs, Treasury, and Social Security Administration
  • National Institute of Standards and Technology
  • Department of Health and Human Services

We have a unique view across government. And we partner with federal agencies, industry, and academia to accomplish what no organization can do alone.

Meeting large-scale challenges takes a wide network of technical expertise. From our aviation to quantum science labs to our independent R&D program and 66 locations worldwide, there’s a place for all experience levels and perspectives—students, veterans, experts.

It also takes an inclusive and diverse environment. Our people bring their best and whole selves to work. Because the more viewpoints looking at a problem, the better our solutions.

Join us—and amplify your impact for public good.

Diversity

Cultivating an environment where everyone thrives.

Industry publications and organizations from Miliatry Times, CIO.com, Forbes, Cyber Defense Magazine, NACD, and DisabilityIn have recognized our company, our leaders and our work.

Newsweek named MITRE as a 2024 "Greatest Workplace for Diversity." We’re also intentional about creating a culture of belonging, and it shows in the honors we’ve received. For 2023, more than 70% of MITRE’s awards highlight our commitment to inclusion, diversity, and equity.

As a company built on innovative problem-solving, diverse perspectives are essential to our success. It’s why we’re committed to cultivating an inclusive environment where everyone can have a sense of belonging and thrive.

We know different cultural backgrounds, work experiences, and viewpoints matter and make for stronger outcomes.

Our Employee Resource Councils foster connection, community, and celebration across MITRE. The groups include:

  • Multi-Cultural Employee Resource Group (coordinating group that also supports three networks: Asian-Pacific Islander; Black Culture; Latin-American)
  • Accessibility Council (including interest groups for hearing loss, vision impairment, neurodiversity, and invisible disabilities)
  • Multi-Gen Council (a cross-generational group)
  • NextUp (for early-career staff)
  • Pride/LGBTQ Council
  • STEM Council
  • Veterans Council
  • Women’s Council

Our commitment to inclusion and diversity goes beyond our own workplace.

We help federal agencies attract neurodivergent talent. We broaden professional and educational opportunities in underrepresented communities by:

  • Partnering with Historically Black Colleges and Universities and other minority-serving institutions, with a focus on engineering and computer science programs
  • Maintaining longstanding collaborations with organizations such as BEYA, Women of Color, the National GEM Consortium, and Advancing Minorities’ Interest in Engineering (AMIE)
  • Supporting our employees’ volunteerism to encourage students of color, as well as young women, to pursue technical studies
