What do you do for the company?
I am the Community Manager at Windsong Apartments
What does working for Steadfast mean to you?
Steadfast means “home”. Not only for our residents but for our employees as well. We spend a minimum of 40 hours each week at our community. During the week we see our staff and residents more than our families. You have to love where you work and what you do to spend so much time there. This company cares about its employees and residents. They take the time to train and support us.
Very important hard-hitting question…if you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
Sushi…plain and simple, I have a sushi addiction, and hey, you can change it up in many ways!
As 2017 comes to an end, there has been one thing on my mind a lot lately, and I'm glad to have the opportunity here to share it.
I started working as a leasing consultant at Reflections on Sweetwater this past February. This is my first job in the property management industry, but it has been something I have been interested in trying for many years.
Before I found Steadfast, I was working in a very hostile environment at a restaurant over an hour away, with an emotionally and verbally abusive boss. I felt trapped. In January, my roommate and best friend grew tired of seeing me in such turmoil, and she told me to quit. She gave me two months to find a new job and she covered me financially during that time. Obviously, I am eternally grateful for her generosity and care, but I am also so happy I found Steadfast.
Truthfully, working with my original property manager, Jay M, was the first time I'd ever been praised or encouraged in any line of work. He has since been rightfully promoted to a larger property, but I am honored to have worked with such an outstanding leader while I learned the skills of my new trade.
During my second week on the job, Jay thanked me for posting a Craigslist ad. A simple task that was part of my daily morning routine. It was hardly any effort, and yet Jay went out of his way to show me he appreciated me. I went home and cried that day, this time from happiness - I was humbled. It may seem silly, but it was a small gesture that had a major impact on me and it will be long before I forget it. Again, I know it's silly, but I felt like a lost puppy who finally found a home. His positive leadership motivated me to come in and strive to do my best every day. Since then, I have had almost nothing but overwhelmingly positive experiences with everyone in our company. I feel it's necessary to mention that my new property manager and assistant manager are equally amazing at what they do and I'm very proud to be on their team.
I'm nine months into this job now, and my life has done a complete one-eighty. I'm confident, I'm happy, my job is rewarding and fulfilling, I have health insurance, and I've been propelled forward in my life.
I am lucky, I am grateful, and I am so, so very thankful to be a part of a company that not only boasts its wonderful core values, but also acts on them. Steadfast breaks the cold stigma of the corporate world and makes me proud to be a part of this company. I'm excited to see where it takes me.
In short, I'm thankful to have a job with a company that values me not only as an employee, but also as a person. From the bottom of my heart, Thank You Steadfast! You have truly changed my life.
