We’re a global tech company with a big mission and a startup heart – 3,500 people, from 90 nationalities, working in 17 offices around the world.

The current international banking system is broken. It doesn’t let us send, spend or receive money across the globe easily, quickly, or cheaply. So we’re building a new system – the world’s most international account. For everyone, everywhere.

We work in autonomous teams.

Autonomous teams are central to the way we work. Our teams are closest to our customers, and are empowered to decide what to prioritise and deliver, without unnecessary bureaucracy. Working this way helps us move at speed and achieve our mission faster.

We put our customers first.

We’re working to create a fairer financial system for real people. So we make sure customer voices are the loudest in the room. Whether that’s working through feedback, inviting customers to test our product, or having them talk us through how we’re doing. We listen and we serve — no egos, no exceptions. 

We get better through feedback.

Feedback is a good thing. Our teams get it early and they get it often. Anyone, in any team, can challenge anyone else’s ideas. You can even challenge the CEO. In fact, he’d welcome it. Our teams gain focus from working this way, it helps us move fast and recognise when we need to shift direction. And we all work hard to give genuine, direct, and respectful feedback to the teams around us.

We learn as we grow.

Our growth over the past few years has been fast. Very fast! Last year we almost doubled in size. Which means that half of our people have been with us less than a year. 

Fast growth brings challenges and we have our growing pains. Teams are working on so many different things at once, it can be hard to keep up with everything that’s going on. But we listen to each other, get stuck in and do whatever it takes to make the best working environment we can for everyone.

We know working at Wise is challenging and all our people go above and beyond for our customers. Because of this, after 4 years at Wise, you’ll have the option to take a paid sabbatical — 6 weeks paid time off and £1,000 in addition, so you could make the best use of your free time.

We encourage flexible working. Whether it’s time off for children, working from home, school plays, volunteering or just life admin — we know flexibility is essential.

To further this commitment, we’ve also implemented a hybrid working system, meaning you can work remotely for 90 days a year. Engineers at Wise are quite literally building something that no one ever has. For the past ten years, we’ve been on a mission to make international finance work for everyone, everywhere. Rather than relying on the traditional SWIFT messaging infrastructure and correspondent banking relationships, we’ve built our own system to move money around the world.

And we’re not stopping just yet — to make money truly borderless, we want to integrate to more and more local systems. No one’s ever built a single global network which hooks into all the different local payment systems around the world. We’re doing it.

We’ve also moved to a platform based business model, and continue to invest in machine learning, automation and prediction. This means that our systems have to be robust, all while being scaled sustainably.

Wise is seeing phenomenal growth. But scaling our product to reach millions more customers brings very real technical challenges. We need your help to take Wise to the next level.
