While all the content in the Tiny Trips Library is written by the team and professional freelance writers, I frequently received messages from community members asking how they could contribute. Our followers enjoyed our brand and wanted to be a part of it somehow. That was the impetus behind a recent content/community project I dreamed up and executed: Tiny Trip Diaries.
With Tiny Trip Diaries, we invite our community to submit stories from their own Tiny Trips that we publish on a special landing page on our site. Since we weren’t necessarily working with pro writers on this project, I knew I wanted to find a way to streamline it and make sure we were getting the best stories people had. Rather than having people write in any format, I created a unique form that asks questions related to our Tiny Trips values (like “Did you get out of your comfort zone during the trip? Tell us about that moment.” and “Tell a short story about the deepest moment of relaxation or rejuvenation on the trip.”)
After receiving a submission, I’d follow up with the writer and ask any relevant follow-up questions or make minor edits. Then, I’d build and publish the Diary on a page dedicated to the project. We got one submission the very same day we launched the initiative, and the woman was so thrilled to see her travel story published on our site.
