As the Director of Test Site Operations at ABL’s Mojave, CA test site, you will be responsible for all aspects of test operations and infrastructure. This includes overseeing engine and stage testing, from development programs through production, as well as managing infrastructure projects for the test site, site maintenance, and logistics. You will ensure best-in-class test operations while adhering to stringent cost and schedule requirements. This role demands meticulous attention to detail and excellent interpersonal skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES:- Oversee all test infrastructure and operations, including engine, stage, and component test stands.
- Lead, mentor, and support staff.
- Build and support a team of engineers and technicians for test operations, test stand build, engine assembly, and maintenance of test infrastructure.
- Develop and maintain program plans, budgets, and schedules.
- Manage external contractors and suppliers.
- Improve test site infrastructure and operations with goal of conducting multiple engine tests per day.
- Oversee administration, supply chain and logistics.
- Ensure health and safety of team.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement in test process.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:- 10+ years of experience in Test, Propulsion, or Aerospace Engineering, or test program leadership with hands-on field experience.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering management, computer science, or similar technical field.
- Experience with ground support equipment and test assemblies, including mechanical, fluids, electrical, and communication systems.
- Experience leading teams, work autonomously, and collaborate effectively in a team environment.
- Familiarity with engineering and construction codes and regulations.
- Familiarity with explosive siting requirements.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:- 15+ years of experience engineering, building, and/or leading and managing high-performing teams.
- Advanced degree or training in engineering, engineering management, computer science, or similar technical field.
- Experience designing, building, testing, or operating test sites and/or test equipment within the aerospace industry.
- Experience running rocket engine test programs.
- Experience working with Space Force, NASA, FAA, and other state & federal government offices.
- Proven ability to define work scope, establish requirements, and drive progress in ambiguous settings.
- Proficient in creating, tracking, & communicating budgets, schedules, and progress.
- Ability to work & execute in dynamic and austere environments.
- Proven strong work ethic and ability to lead by example.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:- Must be willing to be based in Mojave, CA or based in El Segundo, CA (HQ) and travel to the test site weekly. (Travel in excess of 60%)
$190,000 - $250,000 a year
This is the lowest to highest compensation range we reasonably and in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
