POSITION TITLE: Accounts Payable Supervisor


POSITION SUMMARY:

We have an exciting opportunity for an Accounts Payable Supervisor in the Finance Department at Scripps Research in La Jolla, California, home of some of the world’s most renowned scientists. This is a great opportunity for someone who is excited to support great science with the community by being an integral part of the Finance team. Responsibilities include oversight of daily planning, coordination and operations of the AP function, including the accurate processing and disbursement of all accounts payable checks and electronic payments. Supervises and coordinates the work of accounts payable staff.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Performs all personnel actions including communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; initiating, coordinating, and enforcing policies, and procedures.
  • Provides guidance to subordinates to achieve goals in accordance with established
  • Produces standard and ad hoc reports as requested to verify checks for accuracy and ensure accounts payable and general ledger total balance.
  • Processes requests for payment for individual services or foreign speakers, travel reimbursement, and all requests Completes account reversal and journal entries to correct any previously recorded errors.
  • Negotiates and resolves accounts payable related problems involving outside vendors and/or TSRI
  • Responds to escalated inquiries from internal staff as well as external vendors, providing answers, guidance and troubleshooting issues to resolution.
  • Posts accounts payable batch totals and initiates generation of
  • Edits 1099 Tax Reportable information for correct and complete
  • Analyzes requests for payment, refunds, or cancellations of payments, researching and authorizing payment action as appropriate.
  • Authorizes bank investigation of suspected fraudulent check
  • Responsible for identifying, implementing, and maintaining paperless pay solutions, archiving, and other automation to minimize cost and maximize early pay discounts, bank rebates, and electronic pay and matching solutions.
  • Support organization and leadership in AP related and ERP system related implementations and improvements.
  • Responsible for monthly P-card/credit card program reconciliation along with Accounting Manager
  • Responsible for routine metric and ancillary AP reporting internally as well as for related parties

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Minimum 5 years progressively responsible accounts payable experience, including a minimum of 1 year lead or supervisory experience.
  • Experience with ERP system implementation and subsequent automation of manual

  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate administrative processes and recommend changes to increase
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment and adhere to strict

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

May include: stationary position for an extended period of time, traverse campus/facility as needed, operate machinery such as computer, phone, copy machine; exposure to cold or hot temperatures.


COMPENSATON:

The expected hiring range for this position is $75,000 to $86,500/annually, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
