Job Description Summary
Performs routine and non-routine tasks for specific functions within a department/program/unit. Often serves as front line contact. May provide support for executive level staff and faculty members. May perform tasks in support of business operations which may include documentation, filing, record keeping, and event support. May work in a system in order to maintain records. Coordinate with various university entities. Duties are performed at various levels within the defined title.

Job Description
Responsibilities
The University of Akron, Office of Multicultural Development, is seeking to fill the position of administrative assistant. This individual will oversee the daily operations of our office, including the following: maintain calendars, organize meetings, take meeting minutes, coordinate special events, make travel arrangements, and compose correspondence. Manage the incoming mail, including the U.S. Mail and documents. Assist with programming both on and off-campus. Coordinate, create, and manage content for the department’s social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram (etc.) as part of an internal marketing team. Maintain highly confidential personnel files and payroll records. Track available positions, compile information for job descriptions and new job openings, and conduct employee searches. Manage, monitor, and update the department’s website. Update and manage computer databases and file systems. Utilize software packages and computer applications to create spreadsheets and documents for the completion of projects. Respond to inquiries and complaints, furnishes information to the public, and provides explanations. Support daily departmental business, including monitoring department budgets; ordering and maintaining inventory of supplies; administers departmental purchasing activities; authorizes limited expenditures. Assign, train, supervise, and review the work of designated student assistants. Act as a liaison between the department and the university community. Ability to work a occasional evening or weekend.

Required Qualifications
Requires 18 months of education or training beyond high school and a minimum of 2 years experience in office/clerical procedures. Ability to coordinate programs, work in a fast paced environment, and utilize new technology required. Advanced computer skills including work processing, spreadsheet, and database software packages required. Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and research skills required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with low-income first-generation students and families, as well as the ability to work effectively with individuals from various cultural backgrounds.

Compensation: The compensation for this position is $15.00 an hour. Grade 116. The University of Akron offers a competitive total compensation package comprised of a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits for eligible employees including medical, dental, vision, short and long-term disability, life insurance, and paid leave of absences including time off for illness, vacation, and maternity or paternity leave. In addition, eligible employees and their dependents are provided tuition remission.
