Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Senior Sediment Remediation Engineer with 15+ years of experience in civil, geotechnical or environmental engineering with a focus on sediment remediation. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience designing, assessing, and implementing remedial solutions for complex sediment contamination projects in a variety of environments, including terrestrial, river, lake, and marine sites. Experience working under CERCLA (Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act) is essential. This role requires a deep understanding of sediment contamination issues, including site assessments, remedial design, and long-term monitoring to mitigate environmental risks.

As a Senior Engineer, you will play a key leadership role in project coordination, providing technical expertise, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring the successful design and implementation of sediment remediation strategies. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and regulatory agencies to achieve project objectives and regulatory compliance.

We are open to having the candidate work from any location within the US Mainland, in what is our preferred work model of a hybrid basis, but we are open to candidates working 100 percent remotely, depending on their current location within the US.  We are also flexible to part time OR full time roles as well.  Whatever situation fits your needs/wants best.

Some of the Key Responsibilities are as follows:

  • Sediment Site Assessments & Investigation:  Lead comprehensive sediment site investigations, including site characterization, sediment sampling, and contamination assessments. Review and interpret complex data from soil, water, and sediment samples to identify contaminants and risks. Conduct ecological risk assessments to inform remediation decisions.
  • Remedial Design & Implementation:   Develop and oversee the design of innovative and cost-effective remedial strategies for sediment contamination, tailored to site-specific conditions in river, lake, marine, and terrestrial environments. Remedial technologies may include dredging, capping, in-situ treatment, bioremediation, or containment strategies. Ensure designs are compliant with CERCLA and other relevant regulations.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Reporting:    Prepare and review reports, regulatory submissions, and technical documentation required under CERCLA and other state/federal environmental regulations. Serve as the primary technical contact for regulatory agencies, ensuring that remedial strategies are in full compliance with applicable laws and permits.
  • Project Leadership & Management:   Manage and oversee multiple sediment remediation projects from start to finish. Lead project teams, ensuring timely and successful project execution. Monitor project budgets, schedules, and resource allocation to meet milestones and client expectations. Manage risk assessments, health & safety plans, and project documentation.
  • Business Development & Client Growth: Build and nurture strong relationships with potential clients, regulatory agencies, and industry stakeholders to expand the company's client base. Lead proposal development, including writing technical sections, cost estimates, and coordinating multidisciplinary teams to submit competitive bids for new projects. Assist senior leadership in developing strategies for market expansion, identifying emerging trends, and fostering long-term partnerships to support business growth.
  • Client & Stakeholder Communication:
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies. Provide strategic guidance, technical expertise, and regular updates on project status. Communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences, ensuring transparency and client satisfaction.
  • Sediment Remediation Technology Innovation:
Stay at the forefront of emerging remediation technologies, tools, and techniques. Provide thought leadership and innovation in sediment remediation, evaluating and integrating new technologies to improve effectiveness, reduce costs, or speed up project timelines.
  • Mentorship & Team Development:
Mentor junior engineers, environmental scientists, and project teams, providing guidance on technical issues, project management, and professional development. Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Post-Remediation Monitoring & Reporting:
Oversee post-remediation monitoring activities to evaluate the effectiveness of remedial actions. Ensure that long-term monitoring programs are implemented and that remedial action objectives are met.
