Role Summary

The AOCS Safety Program Manager is the sole subject matter expert in safety management activities within the Airport Operations & Customer Service (AOCS) division at Alaska Airlines (AS). As an individual contributor, this role defines long-term strategy for the divisional Safety Management System (SMS) program and exercises considerable latitude and initiative to solve complex issues associated with the AOCS divisional SMS program.

Key Duties

  • As the lead subject matter expert in safety management for AOCS, oversee safety management activities, including the SMS program.
  • Define long-term strategy for the SMS program and oversee and own changes for continuous improvement.
  • Exercise considerable latitude and initiative to embed SMS principles in the operation and ensure processes are in place and followed within the division, including completion of SMS training.
  • Influence across company and several levels up as the Safety division liaison for AOCS Stations and AOCS Cargo.
  • Lead Safety Vision & Value initiative for AOCS and oversee the divisional Safety Recognition program.
  • Manage design, implementation, and maintenance of a Leading Indicator program, working closely with station leadership.
  • Develop and maintain an effective SMS data analysis review process that actively involves key division stakeholders and proactively identify safety risks and drives initiatives to mitigate those risks.
  • Collaborate with station management and the Safety division to ensure continual improvement in safe operations.
  • Network with and represent Alaska Air Group at industry, government, and regulatory agency meetings as necessary.
  • Make decisions on an effective reporting process for purpose of sharing of results and facilitating discussion of the SMS program with senior leaders within the division through the DAG and SRB process.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

  • 7 years of experience in station operations with compliance oversight, Project Management, Safety Management System oversight, or Aviation Data Analysis.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Experience with Safety Management Systems and a full understanding of 14 CFR Part 5.
  • A thorough understanding of airline safety and operating standards, including ground operations.
  • Analytical with strong professional curiosity.
  • Strong understanding of systems and processes.
  • Strong desire to work collaboratively with internal customers, companion workgroups, and outside agencies.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Excellent communication skills (e.g., verbal, written, and listening).
  • Detailed oriented and highly organized, with ability to multi-task and work independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

  • Experience working with regulatory or other governmental agencies.
  • Safety Management System training including Safety Risk Management and Safety Assurance.

Salary Range

$112,400 - $174,200 / year

Salary Details

Pay will be based on multiple factors, including and not limited to location, relevant experience/level and skillset while balancing internal equity relative to other Alaska/Horizon employees. Alaska/Horizon is committed to fair, unbiased compensation along with competitive benefits in all locations in which we operate.
