Director, Associate General Counsel

Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer & Head of People, the Director, Associate General Counsel will play a critical role in providing legal guidance and support across various aspects of the business, including commercial transactions, regulatory compliance, intellectual property, employment law, and corporate governance. This position requires a proactive legal professional with strong problem-solving skills, the ability to manage multiple projects, and a deep understanding of the retail and e-commerce landscape.


*The incumbent for this role must reside in California. We have offices located in SF/LA.


What you'll do: 


Contract Management:
  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including supplier agreements, licensing agreements, distribution agreements, and service contracts.
  • Manage contract lifecycle from initiation to execution, ensuring that all contractual obligations are met. 


Intellectual Property:
  • Oversee the company’s intellectual property portfolio, including trademarks and copyrights.
  • Develop strategies to protect and enforce the company’s intellectual property rights.


Corporate Governance:
  • Assist with corporate governance matters, including board meetings, corporate filings, and maintaining corporate records.
  • Support mergers and acquisitions, financings, and other corporate transactions.


Employment Law:
  • Advise on employment-related matters, including hiring practices, employee relations, benefits, and terminations.
  • Ensure compliance with labor laws and manage employment disputes.


Dispute Resolution:
  • Manage and resolve legal disputes, including litigation, arbitration, and mediation.
  • Coordinate with outside counsel as necessary.


Legal Advisory and Compliance:
  • Provide strategic legal advice to the executive team and various departments.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including consumer protection, advertising, privacy, and employment laws.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to mitigate legal risks and ensure regulatory compliance.


What you'll bring:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the state bar in California.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant legal experience, preferably with a combination of law firm and in-house experience.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial law, intellectual property, employment law, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience in the retail, fashion, or e-commerce industry is highly desirable.
  • Excellent negotiation, drafting, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High ethical standards and professional integrity.


$200,000 - $240,000 a year
Salary range for this role is $200,000 - $240,000/yr. The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include, as applicable, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
