Position Overview
The Ultrasound Technician will provide high-quality diagnostic ultrasound imaging services at the Atlanta VA Health Care System's Radiology Department. This role ensures the highest standard of care for Veteran patients, adhering to VA protocols and standards while maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care and Examination
-Conduct diagnostic ultrasound examinations, including evaluations for both inpatient and outpatient services.
-Review patients' medical history, prior imaging studies, and laboratory results.
-Educate patients on procedures, addressing risks and obtaining informed consent when required.
Technical Proficiency
-Operate ultrasound and diagnostic imaging equipment, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and minimizing unnecessary radiation exposure.
-Demonstrate expertise in ARRT/ARDMS-certified diagnostic ultrasound scanning procedures.
-Ensure proper documentation of examinations in the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS), including patient progress, exam details, and communication with providers.
Collaboration and Communication
-Work closely with radiologists, VA physicians, and other healthcare staff to deliver accurate diagnostic results.
-Communicate effectively with patients regarding their care and ensure they understand their rights and responsibilities.
Administrative Duties
-Complete and maintain accurate clinical notes, including exam details, radiation dose amounts, and any contrast used.
-Document informed consent, and maintain detailed records of exam procedures and outcomes.
-Participate in ongoing training and competency evaluations to stay current with newly implemented techniques and procedures.
Equipment Maintenance and Compliance
-Ensure all equipment is functioning properly and report any malfunctions promptly.
-Adhere to VA policies for the safe handling and use of contrast materials.
Qualifications
Licensure and Certification
-Current, full, and unrestricted certification to practice in any U.S. State, Territory, or the District of Columbia.
-Certification through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) is required.
Education and Experience
-Graduation from an accredited program in Radiologic Technology or Sonography (JRCERT or equivalent).
-Minimum of two (2) years of continuous work experience in ultrasound imaging within the last four (4) years in an ARRT/ARDMS-certified healthcare system.
Technical Knowledge
-Expertise in operating diagnostic ultrasound equipment and understanding the clinical relevance of treatment machines.
-Knowledge of professional care theories, disease processes, and growth and development related to VA patient populations.
Skills and Competencies
-Ability to perform and document examinations efficiently in CPRS.
-Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with a diverse healthcare team.
-Proficiency in English (spoken, written, and reading).

Ultrasound Technician 1: Sat/Sun (7 am – 7 pm), Mon/Tues (8 am – 4:30 pm)
Ultrasound Technician 2: Sat/Sun (7 am – 7 pm), Thurs/Fri (8 am – 4:30 pm)
Ultrasound Technician 3: Sat/Sun Nights (7 pm – 7 am), Days TBD
Ultrasound Technician 4: Mon – Fri (2 pm – 10:30 pm)
