DescriptionThe Amazon Device and Services Design Group (DDG) is a multidisciplinary design team that is responsible for the CX and UX across the Echo family of devices, Fire TV, Fire Tablets, Alexa Mobile and more. DDG's mission is to conceptualize and bring to life delightful, easy-to-use, and high value experiences for our customers.We are looking for a Principal Visual Designer who can bring a global perspective and craftmanship to our team. You will be hands on and leading by example as you define, design and deliver products at huge scale with universal appeal. You will be joining the Device & Services Design Group at Amazon in a role that reports to our Head of Visual Design Systems and will interface with key product partners across the Devices & Services Organization.Our Expressions Design team elevate our digital experiences by activating all senses including sound, visuals, motion, touch, and haptics. They have a drive to improve inclusion and create a meaningful, emotional connection between customers and our products. As a Principal on the visual expressions team, you will raise our bar on taste and be responsible for aligning visual systems, including color palette, typography, iconography and illustrations; aiding in its rationale and extension to our product portfolio.Key job responsibilitiesKey job responsibilities- You will work closely with Expressions Group Visual Design leaders, IC designers, content creators and external agencies to drive end-to-end processes in an open and collaborative environment.- You think holistically, and craft the "why" of all that we design - advocating for your solutions in context of business and customer goals.- You are an expert craftsperson who is equally comfortable delivering hands-on design and leading through others to deliver innovative and influential visual expression.- You have deep knowledge of visual design systems, art direction, web, digital design and creative process best practices.- You can work with the product and technical teams to develop a shared vision of a product/feature, close on requirements and deliver design to meet the product's objectives and leverage the scale offered by our platform without compromising on core experiential principles and customer intent.- You can drive the alignment and awareness of visual solutions with Amazon Design and Senior Leadership in the Devices and Services Org, and more widely across Amazon.Basic Qualifications- 12+ years of design experience- Have an available online portfolio- Proven history of design and development of a product design system and an emphasis on conceptual, visual, interaction design and strategic thinking.- Fluency in best practices for multi-platform information architecture and design, as well as strong knowledge of usability principles and techniques.- Expert skill level with standard design tools such as Photoshop, Sketch, Figma, In Design and the willingness to roll up the sleeves to meet business and product deliverables.- A minimum of a BA/BS degree in a Design preferably in graphic design or visual communication design.Preferred Qualifications- Experience in end-to-end concept to shipping several full product development cycles; successful experience as Creative Director, Art Director or equivalent role.- Experience creatively solving hard problems across complex products with simple yet transformational results.- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and all levels of an organization including executive management.- Strong bias for action including the ability to juggle multiple priorities and effectively deliver in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.- Experience with variety of emerging interface types, e.g., voice, AR/VR, gesture-based systems.- Experience designing for ML systems.- Passion for learning and innovation, balanced with business needs and customer expectations.- Expertise in typographic principles, motion design, and illustration.Amazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $249,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
