How will you make an impact in this role?

The Enterprise Risk Management & Risk Oversight (ERM&RO) organization within Global Risk and Compliance (a Second Line of Defense function) is responsible for identifying and managing risk across all business units, functions, processes, and geographies at American Express.

The ERM Framework, Governance and Reporting team within ERM&RO provides an independent view of risks faced by American Express and is responsible for aggregating the risk profile for the Company. The team is focused on key risk management activities, including but not limited to, risk identification and assessment, risk appetite, effective challenge, and committee governance and reporting.

These responsibilities span the AXP Bank Holding Company as well as the subsidiary US Bank (American Express National Bank).

The VP of Second Line of Defense Oversight Framework is responsible for maintenance and implementation of the framework that Independent Line Risk Management (IRM) adheres to for conducting credible challenge activities.

Specific responsibilities for the VP of Second Line of Defense Oversight Framework include:

  • Maintain a deep understanding of Interagency Supervisory Guidance on Risk Management, including, but not limited to: OCC Heightened Standards, FRB Enhanced Prudential Standards
  • Maintain policies and procedures that outline requirements and process for IRM oversight activities
  • Provide effective reporting of oversight activities to be shared with stakeholders, including risk committees
  • Maintain risk acceptance requirements, manage linkage to other risk programs, and provide reporting on acceptance decisions
  • Ensure oversight framework is appropriately supported by technology infrastructure
  • Lead and supervise the team responsible for execution

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business administration, or related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in risk management within the financial services industry
  • Strong understanding of financial markets, products, and regulatory requirements impacting risk management
  • Proven track record of designing and implementing risk oversight frameworks
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to interact effectively with senior stakeholders and supervisory agencies
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including the ability to build and motivate high-performing teams
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate and mitigate risks while driving business growth and innovation
  • Professional certifications such as FRM, PRM, or CRM are highly desirable

Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the U.S is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions

Salary Range: $185,000.00 to $260,000.00 annually + bonus + equity (if applicable) + benefits
