Learn more about American UniversityDepartmentInternational Student & Scholar ServicesTime TypePart timeWork ModalityUnion:ExcludedSummaryJob Description:The International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) office at AU is seeking one paid international education intern from July through December 2024.The internship is designed to provide either a newly graduated or enrolled student in master’s and PhD programs, who is interested in gaining practical experience in various aspects of ISSS. ISSS is a complex office providing services and programs to international students and scholars. ISSS serves as the expert resource to campus partners and the international education community at large on international enrollment, immigration and cultural matters. American University has a large international student population, with over 1900 international students and scholars from over 100 countries. The ISSS office employs nine full-time and 8-10 part-time student staff members in a typical year.The 2024 internship will have three primary components – office business operations, educational and cultural program coordination and administrative support to the Director, which includes communication outreach, budget and support with external training programs and conference presentations. The intern will have the opportunity to gain direct hands-on experience.Minimum Requirements• Understanding of national security matters in international education• Intercultural sensitivity and flexibility• Strong understanding of complex business operations• Ability to assess and analyze student and scholar expectations• Attention to details and service orientation to improve business operations• Interest in events coordination, training and facilitation• Strong written and verbal communication skills• Knowledge of social media, Microsoft Office, Adobe Suite and other publishing software is preferred.Salary• $20 /hour (no tuition benefits).Hours/week• Minimum average of 20 hours/week• Most work will be scheduled during ISSS regular business hours (Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.), with some evening and weekend programs and meetings.Application: Please submit resume and application form (attached) by email to sbakar@american.eduInternship DescritionOffice Business Operations:• Assist Director in planning and implementation office professional development trainings• Research and prepare drafts for external trainings and conference presentations• Research and conduct various assessments to inform programs and services, analyze findings and make recommendations to the Director• Research, compile and draft Director’s annual campus update with global and institutional international data, highlight and analyze trends• Assist Director with day to day budget and administrative operationsEducational And Cultural Program Coordination• Provide professional support to the ISSS team for planning and implementation of quality cultural programs• Conduct satisfaction surveys and program evaluations and compile recommendations• Assist the Director with International Education Week program for the international education communityCommunication Management And Outreach• Assist with ISSS Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn pages with frequent postings to maintain interest of international student community. Employ strategies to build the audience and the reach of the page• Assist with office communication with local embassies and U.S. higher education professionals• Provide frontline initial immigration advising and administrative support at ISSS front desk, for F-1 and J-1 international students and scholars from over 100 countries.Other Projects• As Assigned by the Director.Supervisor• Senem S.
