The Product Strategy Team (PST) Development Lead will be a strategic leader in the advancement of the program. They will lead the PSTs for our key development programs and be the matrix manager and reporting to the Vice President, Product Strategy Team Lead.This role will lead cross-functional PS Teams accountable for the development and execution of the Product Strategy Plan (PSP). Depending on the development stage, the PST leader will work with a research and/or commercial co-leader. The PSP integrates all key functional-level strategies including the clinical development plan, target product profile and broader commercial plan, medical affairs, CMC, regulatory, biomarker, clinical pharmacology, safety, and research into a comprehensive roadmap to registration and lifecycle management, identifies potential opportunities and challenges for the program and provides alternative development options and risk mitigation/management to ensure corporate goals are met.The scope of the responsibilities of the Product Strategy Team includes selection of drug candidate, ensuring nonclinical information is adequate to initiate clinical trials and BLA/NDA submission, oversight and planning for clinical pharmacology plans, oversight of key regulatory activities gating clinical development and BLA/NDA readiness, clinical drug supply, CMC planning and oversight in support of clinical development and future commercial production. This individual will interpret data relative to program strategy and assist with communication to both internal and external stakeholders, including the Portfolio Steering Committee (PSC), the Executive (EC) and our partners and joint governance meetings as applicable. The PST functions as bi-directional conduit between all functional areas, and the leader is accountable for the cross functional coordination and communications through the PST.Responsibilities• Act as the development Lead for the cross-functional Product Strategy Teams.• Partners with cross-functional teams, including joint teams with our partner Gilead, to develop long-term vision and target product profile, go/no-go decision points, risk evaluation and mitigation plans, commercial opportunity assessment.• Participate in portfolio-wide strategy and may support business development and strategic growth initiatives.• Interact with internal and external stakeholders in support of program-level development strategy.• Presents in senior governance meetings.• Work closely with functional heads and lead cross-functional collaborations in accelerating drug development and optimizing product life cycle management from drug candidate nomination, clinical development, global registrations, to commercial launch.Qualifications• 15+ years of experience in a development role at pharma or biotechnology company, included clinical development.• M.D., PhD degree in science, PharmD, or international equivalent.• Experience in oncology or oncology immunotherapy clinical trials and development required.• Management or matrix management experience required.• Development Team leadership or equivalent experience preferred.• Local (San Francisco Bay Area) preferred. Remote option available (office hours are PST) with regular travel to Bay Area.• Ability to think strategically, innovatively, and tactically with an interest in clinical research and drug development.• Demonstrated ability to evaluate, interpret and present complex scientific data (preclinical, clinical, translational) to inform scientific hypotheses and development strategy. Working knowledge of biostatistics, GCP, and regulatory requirements for clinical studies.• Must be willing and possess the expertise to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-based matrix environment as well as the ability to function independently as appropriate. Flexible to accommodate changes in team and project needs.• Ability to handle multiple projects at a time and have a strong attention to detail while understanding the higher-level strategy.• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.• Ability to make independent, timely and appropriate decisions.• Travel up to 20% expected.Office setting: Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. This is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, mouse, or calculator, and to operate standard office equipment. Positions in this classification occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, reach, push, and pull drawers open and closed to retrieve and file information. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Lab setting: PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*: • Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, grasp forcefully, perform desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects weighing over 40 pounds. • Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach and work above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts. • Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, chop and mix or operate hand and foot controls. • Must have correctible vision to perform duties of the job. • Ability to bend, squat, kneel, stand, reach above shoulder level, and move on hard surfaces for up to eight hours. • Ability to lift heavy objects, possibly weighing up to 50 pounds. • Position may require repetitive motion.This role can be based at our Hayward or Brisbane, CA location (preferred) or can be remote based. The anticipated salary ranges for fully qualified candidates applying for this position are $295,000-325,000 USD annually. These salary ranges are an estimate of what we reasonably expect to pay for this posted position. The actual salary may vary based on various factors including, without limitation, individual education, experience, tenure, skills and abilities, internal equity and alignment with market data.
