Strength Through Diversity
Ground breaking science. Advancing medicine. Healing made personal.
The Art & Science of Medicine (ASM) is the two year introductory course to clinical medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Its mission is to provide pre-clinical medical students with the core knowledge, clinical skills, and professional attitudes essential for a seamless transition into the clinical years. Fundamental to this mission is a vision of competent physicians who provide compassionate patient-centered care dedicated to a bio psychosocial approach to health care delivery. ASM explores social justice issues in health care and teaches medical students how to be advocates for vulnerable patient populations. Woven into this course is exposure to various health care delivery systems, cultural and community awareness, patient education, interdisciplinary teamwork, and medical ethics. ASM faculty preceptors provide medical students with strong clinical role models and mentorship. ASM runs in conjunction with the Longitudinal Clinical Experience (LCE).
The Longitudinal Clinical Experience (LCE) is an educational program that connects first year students with a panel of patients over the course of their medical education.
The ASM Coordinator will organize all teaching, assessment, and organizational aspects of the programs, with oversight from the Course Directors. The Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that the medical students and teaching faculty receive the tools, support, attention, and information required to teach and learn. This position will report to the Office of Curriculum Support Clinical Curriculum Manager with program supervision from the ASM and LCE Course Directors.
