Assistant Manager - Dining Halls

Culinary Services Division (CSD), a division of Auxiliary Services, provides meals and specialty beverages for over 18,000 customers daily and is an integral part of campus life and the overall college experience. CSD proudly provides Montana State University students with not only a repertoire of various cuisines, cooking styles, and flavors, but a comfortable atmosphere to meet friends, study, and simply relax. The division is comprised of 2 residential dining halls, a commissary kitchen, 3 coffee shops and the Union Market retail operation, Brick Breeden Fieldhouse and Bobcat Stadium Concessions, Fork in the Road food truck, MSU Catering, Indulge In-House Bakery, and the Farm to Campus Program.

Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Assistant Manager is a working supervisory position that assists with managing the dining hall front of house operations for their assigned shift (AM or PM).
Maintains an efficiently run, large volume/high activity operation.
Ensures excellent customer service.
Ensures staffing levels are appropriate and duties are being completed for each shift.
Assigns job responsibilities to staff regarding regular and special duties.
Hires, trains, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines staff, seeking Manager assistance as appropriate.
Performs a variety of administrative, payroll, and inventory duties.
Performs a variety of cashier and cash handling duties.
Actively works in all areas as needed in preparation and service of product, and to maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the operation.
Maintains facilities and equipment while communicating repair needs to upper management.
And actively contributes to the success of the department while performing other duties as needed in support of the department’s mission.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Progressively responsible management experience in the food industry or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
Supervisory experience coordinating, directing, and evaluating the work of others.
Proficient experience using computers and various software packages.

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Advanced degree or certificate in business, the hospitality field, culinary arts, or closely related fields.
Large volume and/or high activity food service experience.
Experience with inventory control.
Experience ordering food and supplies.

Work effectively and efficiently in close cooperation with CS staff in a team-oriented environment.

Position Special Requirements/Additional Information

Open Shifts are:
Sunday: 11:30am – 8pm, Monday – Thursday: 12pm – 8:30pm
Tuesday – Saturday: 6:30am – 2:30pm

Will work evenings, weekends, long hours, consecutive days during busy periods, and occasional holidays as the school and event schedule demands.
May occasionally work outside and in inclement weather assisting with special events.
Possess an 8-hour sanitation certification or have the ability to become certified.

Physical Demands
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodations. The requirements listed above are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Normal office and kitchen/cooler/freezer/dock environments.
Work for long periods of time at a computer or on the phone.
Stationary and/or moving about for long periods of time while on the floor.
Move and place odd shaped items while conducting business.
Move objects up to 30lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs.
Use small kitchen utensils and other equipment.
Performing repetitive motions such as, but not limited to, chopping, stirring and serving.
Exposure to cleaning chemicals on a daily basis.
