Job Summary
This position reports to the Stores supervisor and shall assist in the operation of the storeroom. The Assistant Storekeeper is expected to achieve effective performance and control of the receiving, shipping, storing transferring, cycle counting, and issuing of parts and materials.
The Assistant Storekeeper must demonstrate the ability to progress to the storekeeper position. This person must progress in a measured manner in meeting the qualification requirements as outlined in the Stores Development Manual.
Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to the following
  • Issue material to user departments.
  • Identify and return material from user departments and ensure that the material meets the original or useable condition.
  • Pick up and deliver material as directed.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practices.
  • Comply with storeroom Safety and Security Policies.
  • Respond during emergencies such as violent weather, chemical spills, oil spills, call-outs, etc.
  • Participate, as required, in taking cycle counts.
  • Assist in keeping control of all material in the storeroom.
  • Reclassify and adjust material into the storeroom.
  • Transfer material between storerooms using MTTs and ITLs.
  • Properly package material for shipping and storing.
  • Locate material properly by using assigned locations or by making new locations using the Bin Locator.
  • Dispose of material that is damaged, surplus, or has exceeded it's shelf life.
  • Issue stock and non-stock material using first-in/first-out method to ensure items are not issued with expired shelf life.
  • Initiate material claim procedures.
  • Inspect and ensure incoming materials are correct by meeting the material and shipping specifications as indicated by the purchase order.
  • Write material problem vendor reports.
  • Receive material via POs, MTrs, ITIs, etc.
  • Perform the duties of a higher classification, when qualified or needed.
  • Operate storeroom equipment in a safe and efficient manner; report any malfunctions of equipment.
  • Prepare Stores documents accurately.
  • Disassemble and repair reusable material.
  • Load and unload trucks in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Stock roto bins, shelves, and other locations as required.
  • Deliver and return material for maintenance satellite storerooms.
  • Understand storage levels and maintain strict compliance for storing material within these levels at the Nuclear Storeroom.
  • Assist with the revamping of bins, shelves, and racks, as needed, to keep material in an organized manner.
  • Perform other similar or less skilled work.
  • Weigh, record and process scrap information for invoicing.
  • Initialized non-stock material into inventory.
Demonstrate Abilities:
Through a combination of oral, walk-through and/or written testing, demonstrate knowledge of work area. Have ability to perform job duties listed in Section B in a safe, efficient, and accurate manner in the storeroom in which assigned.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of items listed and tasks designated in the Stores Development Manual.
  • Demonstrate, while performing the duties in Section B, the ability to react positively under stressful situations, emergencies, etc.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with and communicate effectively with others.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with and use numbers effectively.
  • Demonstrate skill in the use of tools and equipment.
  • Demonstrate the ability to understand and use the FIMIS Materials Catalog.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to properly use a computer terminal.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to properly use Stores equipment, cleaners, air systems, ladders, stretch wrap machine, phone systems, and tools, etc.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of location and use of portable fire extinguishers.
  • Operate a forklift and stake body truck safely.
Safety:
  • Work in accordance with and demonstrate knowledge of the Accident Prevention Manual.
  • Know and demonstrate the correct use of personal safety equipment (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, goggles, face shields, eye wash stations, respirators, air packs, etc.)
Basic/Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Valid driver's license
Desired Qualifications
  • Some prior storeroom or warehouse experience
  • Forklift experience
Specific Requirements
  • Valid CDL Class B License or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date.
  • Must be physically capable of performing all duties required of this position.
  • Must not be impaired by colorblindness.
  • Must possess a good sense of dexterity.
  • Must be able to work in hot, cold, damp, and dry environments required of this position.
  • Must be able to climb and work in high places.
  • Must be capable of working around rotating equipment.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces.
  • Must be capable of wearing protective equipment.
  • Must be qualified to operate a forklift and pass the Operator Familiarization Course and be certified.
Working Conditions
  • Onsite Mobility Classification – Work will be performed at a company facility.
