Associate Director, Internal Communications

Job Description Summary
The Associate Director, Internal Communications, will help manage an internal communications program at Bentley University that supports clear communication by the president and other university leaders, strengthens faculty and staff connection to the university and its direction, and maintains consistent messaging that aligns with the university’s priorities and values. Reporting to the assistant vice president for Strategic Communications, this role will also work closely with the President’s Office on communications.
Essential Duties
  • Draft clear communications including emails, talking points and speeches from the university’s president and other leaders that keep the community informed of the university’s direction and maintain trust in their leadership.
  • Strengthen faculty and staff connection to the university by creating and sending an internal e-newsletter that includes stories about community members.
  • Provide communications assistance and advice to other internal departments, including drafting emails and updating web pages that align with the university’s messaging.
  • Update web pages for the strategic plan and other Bentley.edu pages and write occasional stories for the website.
  • Manage the approval process for campus-wide emails to ensure high-quality messaging and efficient use of the community’s time.
  • Serve as a communications representative on the university’s Emergency Management team.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) plus at least five years of experience in communications
  • Excellent writing and editing skills including an acute attention to grammar and spelling
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to interact with executives and advise other community members
  • Comfort with technology including using or learning the Drupal content management system and Anthology email system (training for both provided)
  • Ability to work well in a fun, collaborative team environment, including at least two days per week on the Bentley campus, in a way that develops positive relationships within the Marketing and Communications division and across the university
  • Work or personal experience that contributes to the institution-wide commitment to diversity and inclusion
Work Environment
  • Normal office work environment with extensive sitting and computer work
