Salary: $58,000 - $65,000

The Associate Head of Reader Services for Physical Collection Maintenance is responsible for the daily management of physical collection inventory, collections spaces and movement of materials between the Libraries locations in service to the Libraries' and library patrons' needs. As a member of the Reader Services Department, the Associate Head serves as a team member responsible for inventorying and improving space utilization for library locations, coordinating space and collection priorities and designing and delivering innovative, user-centered services and resources for a diverse constituency of students, faculty, staff, researchers and community members.

This position supervises professional and classified staff at multiple locations. The position reports to the Senior Director for Public Services and Inclusion, Diversity, Equity & Accessibility with the Dean of the Libraries serving as second in line supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participates in a work culture that promotes diversity and anti-racism and actively works to eliminate or mitigate the effects of systemic racism and bias.
  • Ensures execution of daily operations including fulfillment of Resource Sharing activities; Courier activities; at Collection Maintenance Facility and Stacks Maintenance activities at all other Libraries' locations.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders; designs and ensures implementation of ongoing analysis pertaining to physical collections in Libraries' spaces. Develops and evaluates plans and procedures to ensure efficient discoverability for our patrons. Advises on issues related to dispossession of Libraries' materials.
  • Leads a dedicated team of library staff across multiple locations to ensure seamless user-centered services. Directly supervises and evaluates staff at library collection facilities.
  • Communicates and interprets library policies and procedures related to Reader Services to library staff, university faculty, students, and staff, and other library patrons; trouble shoots and resolves problems related to departmental services.
  • Serves as an internal liaison to Libraries' branches (Bartle, Science, UDC and Health Sciences libraries) and departments such as Collections, Special Collections and Technical Services on issues related to the job's area of responsibility. Works collaboratively to create consistent workflows which accommodate libraries-wide initiatives as directed by these departments in cooperation with Public Services initiatives.
  • Designs, implements and oversees inter-campus delivery services. Troubleshoot issues related to expansion of courier services to new locations including the Health Services Campus new Collection Management Facility.
  • Contributes to departmental strategic planning as it relates to the unique relationship between resource sharing, reserves, circulation and physical collection maintenance. Drafts and presents proposals for policy and organizational changes related to the department to the Senior Director of Public Services & Office of IDEA and Libraries' Administration.
  • Prepares Libraries' collections for moves by coordinating projects between and within locations as directed by project stakeholders.
  • Responsible for design of temporary workflows as necessary to minimize disruption of services during material moves that also ensures efficient processing and proper ingestion and handling of material; maintaining attention to detail and communicating issues to appropriate departments and stakeholders for immediate resolution.
  • Responsible for ongoing assessment of effectiveness of current technology and advise on available customization; stay abreast of emerging technologies in the field and make recommendations for new software, hardware installations, and systems upgrades.
  • Collaborates strategically with the direct reports of the Senior Director of Public Services & Office of IDEA.
  • Coordinates facility needs, serves as liaison to vendors/contractors unique to physical collection management.
  • Participate in Library and University committees.

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Ability to supervise multiple employees across multiple projects
  • Proficiency with spreadsheet software and ability to learn and apply other types of technologies
  • Ability to move heavy loads on wheeled carts or pallets and lift up to 50lbs
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred:

  • Master's degree
  • Familiarity with integrated library systems or comparable systems for inventory control
  • Familiarity with resource sharing and interlibrary loan software
  • Experience with logistics and project management
