The Department of Biostatistics, Data Science and Epidemiology (BDSE) in the School of Public Health at Augusta University (AU) invites applications for a non-tenure track faculty position in Biostatistics and Data Science at the Assistant Professor rank. This is a full-time position, and the faculty will conduct collaborative research and provide statistical services through the Statistical Consulting Center (SCC) of BDSE. Interest and ability in collaborative research within and outside of AU, as well interest and ability in teaching a few biostatistics and data science courses will be important factors in the selection of candidates. The position will remain open until filled.
Responsibilities
The new faculty will report to the SCC Director and the BDSE Department Chair and conduct research projects coming to the SCC. The faculty will work with the Director of SCC and reach out to the campus and the community outside of Augusta University for collaborative research opportunities and to develop contracts for the SCC. The new faculty will provide research services, including design of clinical trials, experimental design, power and sample size estimation, randomization, data management, modeling, traditional statistical data analysis, genomic data analysis, collaborative grant writing, interpretation and manuscript preparation. The faculty will also teach in the department.
Required Qualifications
The candidate for this position must have a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Data Science, Statistics or closely related field. The candidate must have a wide breadth of knowledge of statistical methodology and have experience using SAS, R, Python, etc. The candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills. The candidate should be able to work independently and must exercise a high level of judgment and initiative. The candidate must be motivated to learn new skills as needed.
Assistant Professor- Early level career as a faculty member.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Shift/Salary/Benefits
This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.

The Department of Biostatistics, Data Science and Epidemiology offers doctoral and postdoctoral training programs in Biostatistics and Master's degree program in Biostatistics, in Data Science, in Clinical Translational Science, and in Epidemiology. The new faculty member will join a highly interdisciplinary faculty and will play an integral role in the ongoing expansion of research and education at AU.
