Position Overview
The Director of User Experience (UX) for our AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Reality Capture (AIR) team is a visionary leader dedicated to inspiring exceptional design, nurturing talent, and fostering collaboration across functions to deliver outstanding user experiences. This role oversees products reaching millions of customers and generating over $2.7 billion annually, contributing to a better world designed and made for all. As the Director of UX, AIR, you will lead a global team of managers and architects, driving the future of design by fostering a modern and innovative experience for our Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) Design products.

This leadership role within the Experience Design organization involves leading a global, multi-functional team covering user experience design, content experience design, UX architecture with a dotted line to visual design, research, and data analytics. As a key member of the AutoCAD, Civil 3D and Reality Capture (AIR) leadership team, you will collaborate with senior leaders to empower millions of users. Your leadership will unify and modernize our AEC platform, integrating design, make, data and people across the entire AEC lifecycle.

In this trusted advisor role to senior leadership, you will focus on strategy, execution, operational efficiency, and organizational alignment. You will drive the design process to ensure rapid, data-informed decision-making and visibility of key initiatives within the team, embodying Autodesk’s culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Candidates must demonstrate a history of pragmatic innovation, alignment building, team collaboration, design strategy development, and staff nurturing.

This role offers remote flexibility within Canada, with options for remote or in-office or hybrid work arrangements in our Vancouver or Toronto offices, supporting a healthy work-life balance.

Responsibilities

  • Balance long-term vision with hands-on project guidance, ensuring today’s initiatives inform future developments

  • Drive design cohesion, unification, and modernization across AEC initiatives

  • Exhibit collaborative leadership across multiple functions and broad-reaching cross-product initiatives

  • Partner with design managers to build high-performing teams and evolve design practices

  • Recruit, retain, and nurture key talent, fostering a culture of excellence and innovation

  • Promote rapid iteration and continuous improvement based on user research and data analytics

  • Collaborate with customers, executive stakeholders, architects, designers, engineers, and product managers

  • Execute Autodesk’s strategic vision and act as a thought leader in design innovation

  • Pursue emerging technologies and integrate state-of-the-art design methodologies

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10+ years of professional design experience

  • Over 3+ years managing managers and leading design teams, with a track record of coaching and mentoring

  • Experience driving large-scale design unification across multiple verticals or products

  • Proven leadership in Scrum/Agile environments

  • Ability to set priorities and advocate for a shared vision with diverse audiences, including senior executives

  • Expertise in human-centered design, user research, design systems, and content strategy

  • Exceptional communication skills to convey complex ideas effectively

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in interaction design or related field

  • Experience leading product strategy for AEC products

  • Designing multi-platform experiences

  • Agile software design methods

  • Familiarity with Autodesk or competitive products

  • Passion for AEC and empowering professionals

The Ideal Candidate

  • You possess a keen instinct for design, enabling you to identify the right opportunities and ideas to drive innovation effectively

  • You create value through strategic thinking and pioneering efforts, rather than merely auditing existing value

  • You excel at communicating strategies tailored to the appropriate audience, delivering the right level of detail for each context

  • You can set a clear course and guide leaders under your leadership, ensuring alignment with overall leadership objectives

  • You understand the importance of integrating user research and analytics into a cohesive set of actionable insights, which you can transform into compelling narratives that inform both high-level strategy and tactical decisions, ensuring effective communication at all levels

  • You excel at connecting organizational dots, with strong negotiation and decision-making abilities, enabling you to establish the effective relationships needed to gain alignment in a matrixed organization

  • You can own and drive organizational structures and deliver 1–3-year plans, adeptly managing both known and unknown constraints

  • You are a compassionate leader with a proven history of designing effective and healthy team structures by setting clear charters, goals, and expectations for team members
