So, what does an Autonomous Vehicle Roadside Assistance Specialist do?
We rescue riders, in an inoperable autonomous vehicle. We are the face of the organization and the help needed when one or more riders are in need!
In this role, you would be responsible for maintaining a high standard of safety, inside and outside of the autonomous vehicle. You'd demonstrate situational awareness, an understanding of the technology in your care, and a willingness to constantly adjust to changes in the environment. You would be the deputy for technology by communicating courteously with management, engineers, and the public.
You would operate or drive in single and/or dual driving mode for up to 8 hours per day alone or with a co-driver, five days a week. You would respond quickly to change and high-pressure environments or situations. You would primarily work individually but occasionally work in small groups. You would monitor multiple software systems with constant focus throughout the day, in addition to providing concise, clear, and accurate verbal and written communication regarding the vehicle's operations.
You will also complete daily reports and document procedures or tasks. You would interact with members of the public and educate them on self-driving technology. You would operate the autonomous vehicle on both defined and undefined routes in a variety of environmental conditions while operating the onboard data-recording computers.
You would safely set up and ride in an autonomous vehicle and have little control over the vehicle's operations. In addition to supporting autonomous vehicles, you will also have to operate regular vehicles while monitoring the location of our autonomous fleet. In some scenarios you would be responsible for the safe recovery of the autonomous vehicle which includes but is not limited to parking safely behind the driverless vehicle, setting up protection, disengaging the autonomy, and driving the vehicle to a safe location. You would exercise excellent customer service while assisting passengers of the driverless vehicle to disembark, board the rescue vehicle, and safely drive passengers to their destination. And most importantly, you would apply safety procedures in all aspects of this position.
Candidate Requirements:
Must be 21 years old
High School Diploma or GED - required
Must have and maintain a driving record that meets state AVT (Autonomous Vehicle Tester) and/or other applicable regulations and laws (where required).
Meets driver requirements, including driving record and criminal history under applicable regulations and laws in the state(s) in which the self-driving vehicle monitor will be working.
Ability to parallel park with minimal assistance and complete a live parking assessment.
Upon acceptance of work, one must be willing to enroll in a randomized drug testing program.
Minimum of 3 years of experience driving on public roads.
Proficiency with a laptop computer and GSuite apps (i.e., Gmail, Hangouts, and Driver, including Sheets and Docs).
Proficiency with using a touchscreen smartphone.
Must be able to type at least 25 adjusted wpm.
Preferred skills and knowledge:
Must have good attention to detail and be able to describe their thoughts quickly and concisely.
Six months of experience driving a self-driving car - Preferred.
Capable of responding quickly and simultaneously to multiple scenarios.
Adapt quickly to new and developing technology.
Cross-functional verbal and written communication and issue escalation and good customer service skills.
Must be able to multitask multiple technologies, including communications devices and vehicle status systems.
Must be able to work specific shifts, including early mornings, evenings, and/or weekends, as well as.
Excellent performers may travel and mentor new team members.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Must be self-motivated and demonstrate good judgment, in fast-paced, high-stress environments.
