Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The UNCG Department of Biology endeavors towards excellence in conducting research and teaching biological concepts and skills to biology majors and graduate students, to prepare them for professional careers and more advanced study. We introduce non-biology majors to the foundations and applications of biology. By involving undergraduate and graduate students in research, we contribute to and increase society’s knowledge across the broad spectrum of biology. We train doctoral students in Environmental Health Science, a complex and rapidly changing discipline. Through laboratory training and directed research experiences we enhance our students’ technical and analytical skills so that they can contribute meaningfully to an increasingly technological world. Our leadership in scientific innovation and discovery serves our students, profession, and our local and global communities.

Position Summary

The Department of Biology seeks a temporary, part-time Beekeeper/Field Technician to help maintain honey bee apiaries and perform honey bee field research at UNC Greensboro, North Carolina.

The Beekeeper/Field Technician will work alongside Dr. Kaira Wagoner at the UNCG campus and affiliated apiaries.

The estimated time commitment is 10-20 hours per week.

Personal transportation to and from work sites in and around Greensboro, NC is required.

Experience with honey bee handling, biological research, and/or biological sample collection is preferred.

Standard working hours are flexible and typically fall M-F, 8-5, though some weekend work may be required.

Minimum Qualifications
Experience with and/or knowledge of honey bee pests and husbandry

Preferred Qualifications
4 year degree + 1 year of directly related bee keeping or husbandry experience; or an equivalent combination of training and/or related experience.
