This role involves overseeing and expanding LFG infrastructure and optimising leachate systems across our regional sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  • LFG Infrastructure Expansion: Collaborate with senior and local Landfill & Gas management teams to install and enhance LFG collection systems, improving long-term business performance and profitability.
  • Maximise Electricity Generation: Increase engine efficiency by strategically relocating generators to high-yield locations.
  • Business Planning: Prepare and monitor regional business plans and capital expenditure budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness and achieving profit targets.
  • Leachate System Development: Improve site performance by managing leachate systems, optimizing chemical usage, power consumption, and gas production.
  • Contractor Compliance: Ensure all contractor activities adhere to Biffa’s Contractor Control procedures.
  • Continuous Improvement: Implement programs to regularly update infrastructure plans, ensuring robust environmental, health, and safety standards.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all installations meet DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations) compliance.
  • Support Teams: Assist operational teams in day-to-day tasks and urgent issues.

Nature and Scope:

This role reports directly to the General Manager and involves regional responsibility for improving gas and leachate field systems across Biffa’s landfill portfolio. You will be involved in both short- and long-term projects, with occasional urgent responses required to meet environmental regulations and P&L targets.

What We're Looking For:

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Degree in Engineering (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Proven project management experience, including budget management (P&L, CAPEX).
  • Extensive experience in landfill gas control and utilization.
  • Understanding of environmental and regulatory legislation.
  • Strong IT skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Full current driving license.

Desirable Skills:

  • IOSH qualification (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health).
  • Member of the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers.
  • Knowledge of leachate treatment and management systems.
  • High and Low Voltage experience.
