Billing Specialist

The Billing Specialist verifies insurance coverage and benefits. Obtains authorization and precertification for treatment. Calculates estimated costs and patient responsibility and communicates this information with patients. Responsible for the complete and accurate collection of patient demographic and financial information for claims processing and to insure maintenance of an accurate medical record. Collects co-pays and other amounts due from patients and posts payments accurately. Works billing edits and claim denials to achieve timely, accurate resolution. Initiates rebilling of accounts as needed. This person is a valued resource to providers, patients, and staff regarding billing and collections activity.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of Medical Billing procedures

• Ability to work on multiple tasks independently and concurrently.

Required Education and/or Experience

• High School Diploma or GED

• 2 years of directly related work experience.

Preferred Qualifications • Bachelor’s Degree

• Experience with patient accounts and collections

• Experience in an Academic Medical Center setting
