About the role
The goal of this role is to establish and maintain a comprehensive legal framework that supports Locals’ evolving needs and international operations. This includes proactively managing legal risks, ensuring compliance across various jurisdictions, and safeguarding intellectual property rights. The role is pivotal in enabling seamless product updates, supporting corporate transactions (including fundraising), and upholding governance standards that fuel the company’s sustainable growth and innovation.
We are a small, agile startup with a close-knit team dedicated to driving growth and innovation. In this role, you will report directly to the COO, ensuring a high level of involvement in strategic decision-making. Our operations team currently consists of three core members: an Ops Manager, HR, and Finance. To support our evolving needs, we also collaborate with external contractors for various specialized tasks. This structure allows us to remain flexible and resourceful as we expand our operations.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and execute a comprehensive legal strategy for the company’s international operations, ensuring alignment with its long-term goals and objectives.
Ensure the company complies with all applicable laws, regulations, and corporate governance requirements across the jurisdictions where it operates.
Oversee and manage legal aspects related to product updates and day-to-day operations, mitigating risks and ensuring compliance with legal standards.
Manage and oversee legal aspects of international corporate transactions, particularly for the company’s operations in Cyprus, including fund-raising initiatives.
Develop and implement strategies to safeguard the company’s intellectual property rights, including trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. Monitor for potential infringements and take appropriate action when necessary.
Your profile
Minimum 5 years of legal experience, preferably in a startup environment or the Tech/SaaS industry, with hands-on involvement in closing funding rounds.
Law Degree with a strong understanding of corporate law, contracts, data protection, and intellectual property.
Expertise in Cyprus corporate law; knowledge of U.S. corporate law is highly desirable.
Proven experience supporting fundraising initiatives, including preparing and reviewing related legal documentation
A proactive approach to identifying legal risks and opportunities, proposing actionable solutions, and driving implementation effectively.
Strong organizational skills with experience in facilitating cross-functional decision-making and ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
Exceptional communication abilities with a detail-oriented mindset and the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
High fluency in English, both written and spoken.
Our hiring process consists of three steps
Introductory Interview with HR (40 minutes). This initial conversation is designed to help us get to know you, understand your career goals, and introduce you to our company. It’s a chance to discuss your background and how it aligns with the role.
Professional Interview (60 minutes). In this step, we dive deeper into your expertise, problem-solving approach, and experience in international legal strategy. We’ll discuss the specific skills and knowledge you bring to the role and explore your ability to handle the responsibilities outlined.
Final Interview with the COO (60 minutes). During this stage, we’ll take a closer look at how your skills align with the role’s requirements and how well we match in terms of company strategy and values. It’s an important moment for both sides to ensure we’re a great fit for each other and can achieve amazing things together.
