Job Brief
As the EH&S Lead, you will play a leadership role in shaping and managing our EHS strategy, ensuring our processes meet the highest standards for safety, compliance, and sustainability. With expertise in handling corrosive acids, gases, and high-risk operations, you will lead initiatives to protect our workforce, the environment, and the surrounding community. Primary work location will be Oakland, California with some travel to Reno, Nevada.
Key Focus Areas of the role may include:
Program Development & Implementation:
Lead initiatives to embed a proactive safety culture, influencing leadership and employees at all levels to prioritize EHS excellence
Design and implement comprehensive EHS policies and procedures tailored to operations involving corrosive acids, gases, and hazardous materials
Establish and maintain compliance with OSHA, EPA, local regulations, and industry standards
Develop and execute training programs to promote safe handling of hazardous chemicals and emergency response protocols
Drive safety culture and best environmental practices for all Oakland operations and lay the foundations for operations in Reno
Risk Assessment & Mitigation:
Conduct risk assessments for chemical processes and equipment, with a focus on high-risk operations involving corrosive materials
Develop and oversee mitigation strategies for identified risks, ensuring workplace safety and environmental protection
Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action implementation
Regulatory Compliance:
Extensive knowledge of Cal/OSHA standards, Prop 65, and other California-specific EHS regulations; experience with multi-state compliance, particularly in Nevada, is a strong plus
Monitor regulatory developments and ensure ongoing compliance with applicable laws and regulations, including reporting and permitting requirements
Partner with internal and external stakeholders to prepare for and respond to inspections or audits
Emergency Preparedness & Response:
Act as the primary coordinator during emergency incidents, ensuring effective response and communications with teams and first responders
Develop and manage emergency response plans, including spill control, gas leak management, and chemical incident response
Coordinate drills and training to ensure readiness for potential emergencies
Continuous Improvement:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement EHS improvements
Monitor performance metrics and generate reports to track progress against EHS goals
For this role, we’re looking for:
Proven track record of developing and managing EHS programs in dynamic, fast-paced environments
Strong understanding of OSHA, EPA, and local regulations related to hazardous materials
Excellent communication and leadership skills to engage employees and stakeholders at all levels

Salary range for this role is $130,000 - $170,000/year
