Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP is a leading international law firm with more than 900 lawyers in offices throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. We are currently seeking a Business Development Coordinator in the Marketing department, reporting to the Business Development Manager.
This role will reside in the Washington, DC office with hybrid work capabilities and will be responsible for implementing the practice and business development goals and strategies of the Lobbying & Public Policy practice. The Business Development Coordinator is expected to assist with the development and implementation of the practice group’s action plans, assist with business development opportunities, help plan, coordinate and execute internal and external practice events, including webinars, sponsorships, client development programs, etc., aide in directory submissions and coordinate speaking and writing opportunities.
The Business Development Coordinator will oversee practice specific research and assist with responses to client proposals and request for proposals (RFP). The Business Development Coordinator is expected to perform all responsibilities with a commitment to providing superior service to the firm’s clients, attorneys, advisors and staff, and maintain an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement. Above all, the Business Development Specialist must fulfill the needs of the firm in a manner which is consistent with the firm’s Core Values.
Key responsibilities of this position include:
Business Development and Implementation
- Assist in the preparation of proposals/RFPs in coordination with the BD Manager and the Proposal Team; track incoming and outgoing proposals; Follow up with attorneys and advisors on a bi-monthly basis regarding proposal status.
- Ensure that the firm’s marketing materials (i.e., brochures, presentations, etc.) are updated as needed and appropriately reflect practice group experience and expertise.
- Draft submissions for relevant practices for directory listings and other awards, including Chambers.
- Support logistical and other activities related to lateral integration.
- Coordinate conferences, seminars, forums, sponsorships, speaking and writing opportunities to ensure they are line with the goals of the practice.
- Work with the marketing and communications team to develop, prepare and distribute brochures, advertisements, newsletters and client mailings at the practice level, and promote exposure of the practice and individual lawyers, as appropriate.
- Coordinate and implement internal and external practice events, with support from the events and communications teams; assist with events as needed.
- Request and disseminate research to teams on current or prospective clients, industry trends or areas of law.
- Coordinate with the creative services team to prepare appropriate community support advertisements, invitations and other print items
- Attend practice group meetings, as appropriate.
Marketing Research
- Work with the research team to provide assigned practice groups with regular updates regarding new business opportunities, market trends and competitive threats.
- Identify opportunities to offer new services or enhance existing services in order to attract high-value work and enhance value provided to clients.
Communications
- Manage social media outreach for practice groups.
- Facilitate internal communication about successes and opportunities within and among the practice groups, utilizing internal communication vehicles.
- Work with the marketing and communications team to develop marketing messages, seminar ideas, media lists and opportunities, advertising and other marketing tools.
Data Management and Administrative
- Manage practice mailing lists in InterAction, including improving the data integrity, data entry, importing, cleansing, searching and exporting.
- Perform various administrative duties, including data entry, scheduling, travel, expense reports, etc. for Director of Business Development.
- Track metrics; prepare reports and updates as needed using InterAction, OpenSecrets and Foundation.
Qualifications (Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
- Bachelor’s degree required
- At least two or three years of marketing or business development experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services organization
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong writing and editing skills, familiarity with AP style guidelines, adherence to firm style guide and templates
- Strong computer skills including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint are essential; experience with InterAction or other CRMs, marketing databases and content management systems preferred
- Ability to work independently, as a member of teams and with colleagues located in different offices
- Excellent organizational, time and project management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities, and adjust to changing priorities, in a professional manner.
