Our ideal candidate is a seasoned IT professional with a solid background in developing systems using service-oriented design in various areas, including SQL query, Power BI, Azure, and more. They should have a rich understanding of writing SQL queries, developing SSIS packages, building and maintaining reports in SSRS, designing table structures, and writing stored procedures for combining and analyzing reporting data.

Our ideal candidate thrives in independently developing data architecture in a Business Intelligence environment. Their expertise spans writing complex SQL queries to optimizing query performance, implementing effective ETL/ELT processes, and maintaining data quality and integrity. They should be adept at handling large volumes of data, performing data modeling, and making data usable and easily accessible for decision-making purposes.


Note:
The salary listed for this job includes the Legislative approved four percent general wage increase for state employees effective as of July 1, 2023.

Duties

This position is a key player in the ITSD's Business Intelligence team and will navigate in data architecture development and database management, write intricate SQL queries, and ensure data quality. Within this position, you will spearhead the design and management of ETL processes and data modeling while developing SSIS packages, SSRS reports, and SSAS cubes. In addition, this position comprises of a range of reporting responsibilities, including policy queries and report designs. This position will also conduct system testing, map existing report data, and facilitate data analysis. Within this role, you will be responsible for the development of intricate ETL/ELT processes and take an active role in ensuring data security.

Some of your duties may include:

  • Analyzes business and technical processes and recommends redesign options to meet new technical and functional requirements.
  • Coordinates and performs code and system impact analysis while research best practices in code review, code patterns, security, data transfer, storage, and deployment.
  • Write SQL queries stored procedures for Create, Read, Update, and Delete (CRUD) operations and Triggers for audits, design, and develop table schemas.
  • Designs and develops table schemas, write SQL queries and stored procedures for CRUD operations and Triggers for Audits.
  • Independently Design and develop reports for addressing program recurring reporting needs by using SQL scripts/stored procedures as well as SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports.
  • Create, Update and Maintain reports for Federal agencies.
  • Peer Review SQL queries written by other team members in order to validate assumptions as well as business rules.
  • ETL design and development using SQL stored procedures and SSIS packages.
  • Designs/develops business applications, and performs data conversion, system testing, user acceptance testing and implementation of applications for the Agency while adhering to all ESD development and programming standards, guidelines, and policies.
  • Communicate application problems and issues to key stakeholders, including management, development teams, end users, and unit leads.
  • Design and develop SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages to import and process data to be used for developing reports and/or analyzing data to address policy and program questions.
  • Design and develop Azure Data Factory/Synapse Pipelines to import and process data to be used for developing reports and/or analyzing data to address policy and program questions.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science or closely related field and four (4) years of IT experience developing systems using service-oriented design and development;

  • SQL query
  • Developing SSIS packages
  • Building and maintaining reports in SSRS
  • Power BI
  • Azure

Designing table structures, writing stored procedures and queries for combining and analyzing reporting data.


OR


Associates degree in computer science or closely related field and six (6) years of IT experience developing systems using service-oriented design and development using;

  • SQL query
  • Developing SSIS packages
  • Building and maintaining reports in SSRS
  • Power BI
  • Azure

Designing table structures, writing stored procedures and queries for combining and analyzing reporting data.


OR

Eight (8) years of IT experience developing systems using service-oriented design and development using;

  • SQL query
  • Developing SSIS packages
  • Building and maintaining reports in SSRS
  • Power BI
  • Azure

Designing table structures, writing stored procedures and queries for combining and analyzing reporting data.


AND


Four (4) years of experience reviewing technical documents related to application development, maintenance and adhering to set goals and schedules.


Desired Experience or Competencies:

  • Certification in SQL server related technologies (e.g. Microsoft MCST, MCSA, Oracle OCP)
  • Six (6) years of experience in developing SQL/SSIS/SSRS/SSAS servers
  • Four (4) years of experience performing the full application life cycle activities of the standard Application Life Cycle Methodology (Scrum, Kanban, Waterfall, etc.)
  • Versioning control tool such as TFS, SVN, GIT, CVS, etc.


Additional Requirement of Employment:

  • Must be able to pass an Unemployment Insurance (UI) Claim & Benefit Information Review.
  • This position has access to federal tax information and therefore, per RCW 41.04.821 and the IRS publication 1075, is required to have a criminal history record check through the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
