Job Summary/Basic Function

The Department of Accounting at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a full-time, temporary (non-tenurable) faculty position (#200010) at the rank of Lecturer. This is a one-year temporary appointment with a possible annual renewal for up to three years. The start date for the appointment is August 1, 2023. The position is contingent upon funding.

The successful applicant will provide instruction for business law courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels and may be required to co-teach with other faculty. Courses taught may include but are not limited to, The Legal Environment of Business, Commercial Law, and Employment Law. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Delivering high-quality instruction through the planning and implementation of effective learning strategies and environments.
  • Utilizing a variety of student engagement strategies in the classroom to ensure active student participation.
  • Adapting courses for both in-person and online formats, ensuring that the student experience is equivalent across modalities.
  • Promoting student success through timely communication, grading, and feedback.
  • Meeting professional expectations by maintaining professional currency, attending college meetings as needed, and contributing to a collaborative culture across the College.

The successful candidate must be a resident of Tennessee and regularly and predictably be available to onsite and online students in class and during office hours. Lecturers are required to meet occasionally with the chair of the department or MTSU administration as requested. Before beginning online courses, faculty must receive the appropriate online training to teach online MTSU classes.

Required Education

Juris Doctor (JD) in Law

Other Desirables

Applicants who are licensed to practice law will receive special consideration. Also, those with experience in the field of employment law, high-quality teaching experience, or at least three years of law or business experience will receive special consideration.
