DevOps Engineer II

We are looking for a DevOps Engineer who will work closely with our Data Platform engineering team. While Campspot is a remote-first company, priority will be given to candidates in Washington and Colorado for this role. Secondary consideration will be given to candidates who reside in states where we already do business, including IL, KY, ME, MA, MI, NY, NC, SC, TX, UT, VT, and VA.

Job Duties
  • On-call support for Production relational databases, cross-region replication, and data security
  • Improve database performance monitoring via regularly scheduled health reports
  • Triage and delegate query optimization to appropriate developer teams
  • Work towards automated remediation of common issues
  • Serve as primary infrastructure/networking contact to the Data Platform team
  • Proactive maintenance and upgrades for AWS RDS Aurora database clusters
  • Use established terragrunt patterns and develop custom modules to support provisioned AWS data resources
  • Implement access logging and remediation as part of a larger data governance strategy
  • Cost optimization for Campspot data stores including implementing new data retrieval patterns to reduce strain on the main transactional database
  • Rewrite reporting queries for performance and reusability
  • Support self-service provisioning of sample data for developers and other nonproduction data needs
  • Provide thoughtful feedback on team code reviews and actively participate in architectural discussions


Qualifications - Core Skills
  • Demonstrated expertise with the following AWS services: RDS, DMS, S3, DynamoDB, MSK, Secrets Manager, KMS, IAM, and Cloudwatch for highly available systems
  • 1+ year of Terraform/Terragrunt module development for internal use
  • Familiarity with cloud security and networking principles
  • Able to identify relative cost of components of cloud infrastructure and participate in cost/benefit discussions
  • Experience debugging local and deployed systems using application logs, CloudTrail analysis, and observability tools
  • Can describe and document existing architectural patterns in text and diagram formats
  • Comfortable pairing with other developers to troubleshoot and knowledge-share, as well as writing documentation
  • Familiarity with MySQL and Postgres database administration including indexing and partitioning - can participate in conversations


Qualifications - Nice To Have
  • Cross-account AWS networking experience with Transit Gateway
  • AWS Cloud Practitioner certification
  • Query optimization experience
  • Javascript or Kotlin familiarity for working with legacy reporting application
  • Experience with data governance (data classification, RDS IAM access, user access control) and other enterprise-level guard rails


Qualifications - Bonus Points
  • Experience connecting to 3rd party API’s to automate processes
  • Experience with Snowflake or another data warehouse system
  • Experience with OpenTelemetry


Compensation and Benefits
  • Base salary of $100-$130k per year
