Career Counselor

Gettysburg College seeks a dynamic, innovative, master’s level professional to serve in this 12-month, full-time position as Career Counselor in the Center for Career Engagement. This position reports to the Director of Career Counseling and Campus Relations.

Enrolling 2,400 undergraduate students from over 40 states and nearly 40 countries, Gettysburg College is known for its rigorous liberal arts and sciences education with a student experience that intentionally integrates learning that occurs inside and outside of the classroom. The Career Counselor will be joining the college at an exciting time with our newly adopted strategic plan, “Living Our Promise,” emphasizing the integration of both academic and co-curricular experiences with a strong emphasis on the career development of every student. In keeping with our strategic focus, Gettysburg College is interested in candidates who have demonstrated a commitment to providing leadership in building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community.

The primary role of the Career Counselor is to provide individual and group counseling and coaching to Gettysburg College students and implement effective career educational programming.
The Career Counselor will:
  • Provide individual and group counseling, coaching, and training through appointments and drop-ins
  • Utilize formal and informal assessment tools and resources to aid in student self-assessment and career exploration processes
  • Create and facilitate innovative programs and events for student career education and development
  • Provide professional school advising to pre-law students
  • Assist in developing and implementing January Term programming focused on student career development exploration, reflection, and tools
  • Partner with the Director, Career Counseling and Campus Relations, on Faculty Career Liaison and Campus Influencers programs
  • Co-manage connectGettysburg online community platform for student users
  • Collaborate on Athletics and/or Greek Life outreach programming


The Career Counselor is a 12-month, full-time administrative appointment. Salary is commensurate with experience and is complemented by an excellent benefits package.

Qualifications
A Master’s Degree in Career Counseling, Counseling, Higher Education, or related field. At least two years of experience in higher education and/or career counseling are required a clear understanding of liberal arts education is preferred. A demonstrated commitment to providing leadership in building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community is required.

Applicants must be able to connect with a broad array of students, parents, alumni, administrators, and faculty partners. In addition to possessing a strong, student-centered approach, successful candidates will have extensive knowledge of counseling, mentoring, advising, equity, and access. Successful candidates will be skilled at articulating the value of a liberal arts experience as it relates to the job search.
Collaboration and teamwork are expected of the College Life staff. A successful candidate for the position will be expected to work cross-departmentally with colleagues in support of the overall student experience and should expect to contribute to work groups, committees, and projects outside of the core responsibilities of this position. Gettysburg believes cross-departmental involvement creates stronger teamwork, a better student experience, and professional development opportunities for staff.
