*****Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawaii may apply for Casual Hire positions, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual hire employees are not eligible for most benefits as provided to regular BOR and Civil Service employees. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to one calendar year for part-time employees.

Working Title: Casual Hire (Curriculum Specialist, Three vacancies)
Hiring Unit: College of Education / Center on Disability Studies
Work Location: Oahu, CNMI, and American Samoa
Opening Date: October 17, 2022
Closing Date: Continuous - Review of applications begins October 24, 2022
Hours per week: up to 19 hours a week / 0.475fte
Salary Range: Not to Exceed $30.00 per hour
Funding: Federal

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adopt science, mentoring, and college transition lessons for high school students from Pacific Island or Filipino cultural backgrounds and develop additional materials
  • Adopt parent workshop lessons for families from Pacific Island or Filipino cultural backgrounds and develop additional materials
  • Review and culturally adopt lesson assessments
  • Collaborate in conducting a pilot test of the lessons
  • Collect data for lesson improvement
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in education, STEM fields, social science, or public health from a college or university.
  • Extensive knowledge of Pacific Islander or Filipino culture, values and language.
  • Previous experience in developing lessons or activities culturally responsive to Pacific Island or Filipino context.
  • Previous experience in teaching students from Pacific Island or Filipino backgrounds.
  • Familiarity in conducting educational research.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel independently to various geographical site/school locations in a timely manner.
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in education, STEM fields, social science, or public health from a college or university.
