Contributing Writer - Technical

The Center for AI Safety (CAIS) is a leading research and advocacy organization on a mission to reduce societal-scale risks from AI. We tackle the toughest AI issues with a mix of technical and policy solutions, working with our sister organization, the CAIS Action Fund.


As part of our mission, we are building a network of skilled contributing writers to support our growing content needs. We are looking for technical writers with experience in machine learning who can help to communicate results in technical AI safety research to a broad audience.


Please note that applicants must be comfortable reading and engaging critically with machine learning research papers. To be considered, applicants must demonstrate prior experience with machine learning research or have a previous track record of writing in detail about technical developments in machine learning research.


Technical writing opportunities:
  • Editing and drafting sections of research papers, turning research results into a polished final output
  • Writing and curating the ML Safety Newsletter, which covers developments in machine learning/ technical AI safety for a research audience

$30 - $50 an hour
This is a contract-based role with an hourly rate of $30-$50, depending on expertise, project complexity, and level of commitment. Compensation may vary based on factors such as subject matter expertise, writing experience, and the scope of individual projects.

We are actively building a pool of contributing writers and encourage applicants with expertise in machine learning and previous writing experience to apply. Writers may be engaged on a per-project basis, depending on expertise and content needs.
