Manager, Trading Operations - Margin Risk

You would anticipate trading and margin risk, acts accordingly to mitigate this risk, and be prepared to explain decision-making to team members, management, and clients via phone, email, and IM. You will focus on the normal day-to-day operational and risk management activities including maintenance and risk liquidations, as well as developing leadership skills. In addition, you would be expected to materially contribute to integration efforts underway across business lines and platforms.This is a very fast paced, high volume environment requiring the ability think and decide quickly, while balancing customer and internal expectations in order to be successful. You should have unparalleled communication skills, being able to explain complex topics to a variety of audiences of varying sophistication in a way that is easily understood.Key responsibilities may include:• Participating in a work environment that requires quick decision-making sometimes based on limited informationm, that requires the confidence to make decisions with limited oversight, and being prepared to discuss rationale for decision making to affected internal and external parties.• Managing first line risk Portfolio Margin and futures accounts, with an emphasis on complex option positions.• Ensuring client service level agreements are met and maintaining a balance between superb risk management and customer experience.• Driving clean risk results by acting as a subject matter expert, encouraging a transparent risk environment, leading project initiatives, and ensuring the Charles Schwab Margin Policy is appropriately followed.• Proactively engaging internal stakeholders and providing well-supported opinions on the current market environment.What you haveTo ensure that we fulfill our promise of 'challenging the status quo,' this role has specific qualifications that successful candidates should have.Required Qualifications:• 5+ years of experience in trading operations and/or a front-line risk environment.• 5+ years futures experience.• Series 3 license.• Strong experience in Regulation T and futures.• Excellent time management and organizational skills, with the ability to set priorities and proactively tackle issues in a dynamic multi-tasking environment.• The ability to reprioritize on short notice and the willingness to make difficult risk decisions.• Flexible with regard to both schedule and role as both may change with little notice in response to market performance and volatility, including outside normal business hours.• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and grow working relationships with internal and external clients.• Excellent analytical and influencing skills with the ability to think creatively and offer solutions that benefit the employees, clients, and firm.• Ability to identify and mitigate risk by adhering to department and firm policies and procedures.• Ability to think strategically beyond day to day risk functions, with an eye toward process and system improvements that make risk management more transparent and approachable.Preferred Qualifications• Series 7, 63, and 24 or 9/10 licenses.• Demonstrated equity, options and futures market experience.• Experience working in trading or risk.• Bachelor’s degree.• Prior call client experience.• 5+ years of system experience in Schwab.• 10+ years of financial industry experience.You demonstrate these behaviors:• Cooperative Teamwork - As a leader, interest, skill, and success in getting groups to learn to work together cooperatively.• Managing Performance - Taking responsibility individual actions & performance, by setting clear goals and expectations, tracking progress against the goals, ensuring feedback, and addressing performance problems and issues promptly.• Results Orientation - Focusing on the desired end result of one’s own or one’s units work; setting exciting goals, focusing effort on the goals, and meeting or exceeding them.• Flexibility - Openness to different and new ways of doing things; willingness to modify one’s preferred way of doing things.• Clear & Concise Communication – Ability to plan and deliver oral and written communications that are impactful and persuasive, particularly for those without the same subject matter expertiseWhat’s in it for youAt Schwab, we’re committed to empowering our employees’ personal and professional success.
