1About the position:
Chevron ENGINE is seeking highly qualified candidates to join our Earth Science group. The successful candidate will provide support to the Exploration organization and Asset Class Earth Sciences and Engineers by enabling rapid access to high-quality data for their exploration and field development/application projects. Additionally, there may be opportunities to assist with technological development. The Subsurface Data Management Specialist should apply Technical Data Management principles to enhance the quality and accessibility of subsurface data, which are crucial inputs for Exploration and Field Development studies.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintains the evergreen subsurface data inventory and databases for Chevron's major subsurface assets, encompassing the data types essential for exploration, reservoir characterization, and modeling studies.
Collaborate with Exploration organization and the Asset teams and BU data managers to adhere to Chevron's Exploration Review Team (ERT) Guidance and Reservoir Characterization Simulation and Optimization (RCSO) Data Inventory Assessment for a subsurface asset across the following data categories: geophysical, wells, engineering, seismic, geochemistry and geological interpretation, geocellular model inputs, and reservoir simulation inputs. Ensure proper documentation of data availability for a given asset, including its storage location and quality as assessed by the asset team.
Coordinate with Exploration organization and BU Asset Teams for the periodic updates of the inventory.
Assist in selecting and implementing effective processes to expedite the delivery of high-quality data during significant data acquisition programs, ensuring its accurate upload into the relevant System of Record for end-user access.
Assist in identifying areas for improvement in data management practices for one or multiple Asset and Exploration Teams, recommend changes based on existing Chevron best practices where applicable, and coordinate the development of new practices when necessary.
Facilitate data augmentation and remediation efforts in collaboration with Exploration and BU data managers, ensuring the validation of corrected data with its respective owners.
Assess data readiness before starting major exploration, characterization, or modeling studies.
Prepare and deliver comprehensive data products tailored for use in exploration, characterization, or modeling workflows, such as a Petrel project with pre-loaded data.
Required Qualifications:
Possession of a B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree in Earth Science, Petroleum Engineering, or Engineering
Required experience with Petrel (or equivalent modeling applications); familiarity with Studio, ArcGIS, Spotfire, and advanced data analysis tools is advantageous
Prior relevant experience working with subsurface data
Experience in customer support, with an understanding of subsurface business needs, and the ability to collaborate effectively across different time zones
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with Studio Manager (or equivalent data management system)
Familiarity with Intersect (or equivalent flow simulation package)
Familiar with Geochemistry and well data
Understanding of data governance principles and practices
Experience with data cataloging and data monitoring tools
Experience with OSDU
Knowledge of Python or other programming languages, and familiarity with Azure ecosystems (pipelines, dashboards, visualization) is advantageous but not required.
Chevron ENGINE supports global operations, supporting business requirements across the world. Accordingly, the work hours for employees will be aligned to support business requirements. The standard work week will be Monday to Friday. Working hours are 8:00am to 5:00pm or 1.30pm to 10.30pm.
