Position: Citizens Bank Trainee – Northern Region (On Site)
Location / Type / Hours
Citizens Bank branches in Salem, Dallas, Silverton, Oregon City, Tualatin, McMinnville and Administrative Offices in Corvallis, Eugene, and Philomath. Must have ability to travel to various branch locations for training as assigned.
Wage Range (hourly): $19.23-21.63, see below.
Type/Hours: Full-Time/Non-Exempt, Mon-Fri 8pm-5pm

Position Description
Our Citizens Bank Training Program is a formal training program providing participants an initial broad exposure to community commercial banking with an emphasis on lending. During the program, participants will gain on-the-job knowledge, skills, and experience in bank operations, credit analysis, loan negotiation and structure, loan processing, and regulation compliance. The goal is to have participants graduate from the program and transition into a position in Operations, Administrative or a Branch role such as a Credit Analyst. Average tenure in the Citizens Bank Training Program is 12 - 24 months, depending on the state of readiness of the individual and opportunities for promotion within the bank.
Training Program At-A-Glance
Phase I: The first 3 – 4 months will include branch operations training in the roles of Teller, New Accounts, and Operations to develop knowledge of bank products, bank operations processes and procedures, regulations, and compliance. These roles/departments include: Teller, New Accounts, Operations, Account Service Center, Systems, Digital Banking, Technology, Administration Compliance, Human Resources, Marketing, Merchant Services, Audit, and Finance). This requires working out of various branch locations and will require travel to those branch locations.
Phase II: The timeframe for this phase is approximately 12 – 18 months and will have an emphasis on commercial and consumer lending, leadership, and management. This requires working out of various branch locations and will require travel to those branch locations. Job duties in this phase will include:
- Performing a variety of duties related to the processing, closing, and administration of commercial and consumer loans.
- Assisting loan officers with processing loan applications, financial analysis, and managing the loan portfolio. Tasks will include spreading financial statements, calculating ratios, analyzing financial statements, assisting with underwriting, preparing loan approvals, Assisting with loan closings, and any other commercial or consumer loan functions as assigned by your supervisor or loan officer.
- Interviewing customers seeking commercial or consumer loans. Sitting in on interviews with borrowers and applicants.
- Analysis of loan requests. Verifying income and financial condition, obtaining credit reports, determining debt-to-income ratios, and recommending approvals or declinations in consultation with supervisor or loan officer.
- Learning and exhibiting knowledge of and adherence to, fair lending laws and compliance with regulations and the institution’s policies.
Completion: Successful completion of each phase of this training program will be determined in consultation with the Training Manager and by the Manager of the unit to which the Trainee is assigned. To be considered successful, the expectation is that the Trainee will demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in the designated phase of training in addition to leadership potential and cultural attributes compatible to those of the bank.
At the conclusion of this training, it is anticipated that individuals in this position will, at a minimum, be functional in general bank operations, commercial and consumer lending and will be ready to be assigned in an Operations, Administrative or Branch role such as a Credit Analyst. Enhanced leadership and management skills are also an expected result. Graduates will have the basic tools to pursue career goals in commercial lending.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance or a related subject from a 4-year accredited higher learning institution is preferred. An Associates degree or equivalent required in conjunction with applicable work experience may qualify.
- Geographically mobile within the Citizens Bank branch system. Location transfers during the training program will occur and final position placement is based on available positions.
- Ability to comply with the Bank Secrecy Act and other banking regulations.
- May handle/count currency and other documents and may use fine motor skills.

Physical Requirements

Salary
Time frames are approximate and may be accelerated or decelerated depending on candidate’s work performance and supervisor’s evaluation. All Trainees are non-exempt, hourly employees.
Phase I: All Trainees will be paid at a minimum rate of $40,000 annually ($19.23/hour) at acceptance into the program.
Phase II: At the successful completion of Phase I, the Trainee will begin Phase II and their minimum rate will increase to $45,000 annually ($21.63/hour).
Completion: At the successful completion of Phase II, the Trainee will be assigned in Operations, Administrative or a Branch role such as a Credit Analyst. The assignment depends on the needs and vacancies within the bank.
