The student becomes an integral part of the Comcast team working on creative, innovative, and thought-provoking projects within various business units.Organization & Team OverviewThe goal of our team is to increase revenue by making ads personalized and serving ads that have high probability of conversion. The Arbitration Engine team is responsible for promotional content relevancy and revenue optimization for customers of TV platforms like X1 set-top boxes, Flex1, and the new Xumo Stream box. Our team works on display advertising and display promotional content. Our team builds distributed systems for serving millions of users, but also builds ML algorithms for relevancy, revenue optimization and protecting end-user's interests in terms of engagement and overall user experience. Mission: "Personalize promotional content placement throughout the browse experience by optimizing for conversion outcomes while automating operator influence, allowing each operator to meet all their unique business goals most efficiently, without affecting users’ engagement" Vision: “Be the best, most customizable promotional content relevancy engine for operators. Be a key differentiating factor for the entOS platform in the market, enabling entOS to attract and retain syndication partners.”Role Description:Are you passionate about building systems that serve millions of users? Are you passionate about using machine learning to solve business problems? By you joining our team, you will get a chance to build systems that see large scale, solve interesting challenges of personalizing content for customers, and achieve user happiness and revenue increase at the same time, having a significant impact to the organization.The student joining our team will be working on building machine learning based applications, data engineering and building metrics, designing online controlled experiments, and building software applications to serve the ML models. The student will be responsible for working on building metrics and feature engineering for some A/B tests, designing and running the A/B tests, building an ML model or an iteration of an existing model, to be used as the treatment group, and implementing the software service side to run the experiment, and analyzing the results from the online controlled experiment. Skills that the student will gain or get exposure to are: Python, PySpark, Databricks, AWS, FastAPI, DynamoDB, Machine Learning, A/B testing, Data Analysis, Feature Engineering, System design and architecture.Some example projects:• Based on the user history and preferences, design a machine learning model and an online controlled experiment to go with it, that predicts whether we should show an ad to this user or not, and how many promotional content items we should include in the response for this user.• Build revenue-based metrics for TVOD, AVOD and other promotional content, which will be used for ML modelling and analytics purposes. Build all the data pipelines needed to continue updating these metrics on an ongoing basis and monitoring these pipelines.• Automate existing data pipelines deployment, testing, and add observability. Come up with innovative solutions on how we manage our existing data pipelines and develop these pipelines.• Automate change ticket creation and implement confidence-based deployments, such that metrics drive the gradual rollout of production changes. • Build an Editorial Campaign Management tool, that takes Editorial inputs for promotional candidates and revenue goals associated to these campaigns, and attaches it to Machine Learning models that recommends relevant Editorial candidates for a user based on their history and preferences, but also optimizes for the campaign goals at the same time.• Build Machine Learning models to support Editorial Campaign Management tool, and run online controlled experiments to test various hypotheses associated with it.Within the team, the student will work with Senior Software Engineers, Senior Software Engineering Manager, Senior Machine Learning Researchers, Senior Production Managers and potentially Data Engineers. Outside the team, the student will interact with Machine Learning Resarchers, Technical Leads of other teams, and Product Managers.Out of the projects that are available to be worked on by this team, the impact is huge. The work that this team is doing ties up directly to revenue goals of the larger org, to increase Average Revenue Per User (ARPU). If we are able to make a slight improvement in the overall ARPU, it makes a huge impact on the company’s goals, and this team is at the center of that. There is a lot of exposure working on this team, to advanced and cuttinge-edge technologies, like Machine Learning and building ML-based applications and applying the ML algorithms to real-world problems, but also getting exposed to the domain of promotional campaigns and associating the work to revenue.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:• Implement APIs in a Python based application for serving ML-models based recommendations• Design, build, implement Data Pipelines in Databricks using PySpark to gather metrics, feature extraction, offline evaluation for ML models and iteration of next generation of models• Design, implement, execute online controlled experiments (A/B tests) and build data pipelines to analyze metrics as results of online controlled experiments• Manage automation, cost optimization, and performance optimization of data pipelines and software applications.• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.Preferred Skills• Experience in cloud computing and distributed systems •Experience in building software applications (backend engineering)•Experience in Data Analysis and Data Science•Experience in building Machine Learning algorithms and applications utilizing Machine Learning models•Experience in designing and running A/B tests• Preferred Majors – Cloud Computing, Distributed Systems, Machine Learning, Software Engineering, Computer ScienceMinimum Qualifications and Eligibility Requirements• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree from Drexel University, with a cooperative learning track.• Available to work 40 hours per week for 6 months starting March 31, 2025 through September 19, 2025.• Authorized to work in the United States with no current or future sponsorship needs• Available to report in-person to the work location on the job posting (unless virtual offering)• Comcast is an Affirmative Action/EEO employer M/F/D/ VComcast is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace.
