Art Director (Video Editing and Graphic Design)

CommonLit is a nonprofit EdTech organization dedicated to providing high-quality literacy instruction to low-income students and students of color to prepare them for success in college and careers. We operate a free online reading and writing program, www.commonlit.org, that is used by millions of teachers and students worldwide each month. We are a quickly growing team of passionate professionals - many of whom are former teachers. Our team is now over 120 full-time employees spread across ~30 states.


The Opportunity


CommonLit is looking for an Art Director (Video Editing and Graphic Design) to elevate our visual storytelling. As an Art Director (Video Editing and Graphic Design), you will create engaging videos that creatively communicate the CommonLit story and capture the attention of our target audience. In this role, you will collaborate with key stakeholders across the organization to conceptualize, produce, and edit video. You will bring proven professional experience in art direction, including but not limited to: video editing, motion graphics, and graphic design. The position is cross-functional and sits on the Marketing team and you will be the first member of the Marketing team’s creative function.




Qualifications
  • At least 7 years of proven experience (2+ of which were in an in-house role)
  • Skilled video editor with a strong portfolio showcasing your expertise in directing, sound design, storytelling, and motion graphics
  • Expertise in video editing software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Illustrator)
  • Expertise in graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign)
  • Extremely strong project manager who is adept at working on multiple projects simultaneously and can prioritize time effectively
  • Strong collaborator with experience working with cross-functional teams across a growing company
  • Strong attention to detail and a passion for enhancing content and creativity
  • Understanding of brand management and content improvements for tech companies
  • Added Bonus: Professional photography experience


Roles and Responsibilities
  • Lead the organization’s creative function and be prepared to grow and develop a team over the next few years
  • Edit high-quality, engaging video content to promote strategic initiatives across the organization
  • Create video concepts and collaborate with key stakeholders to guide storytelling and content
  • Create assets and animation that will be used across the CommonLit website
  • Act as producer when doing video work on site, executing dynamic shoots, leveraging top-notch video, audio, and lighting best practices
  • Edit and enhance raw footage into high-quality video content and tutorials that align with our brand
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in video development
  • Work on multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize deadlines
  • Manage and organize video files and assets


Additional Considerations
  • This role involves prolonged periods sitting/standing at a desk and working on a computer
  • The candidate must be willing to travel to on-site locations across the United States at least three times per year
  • CommonLit will provide a computer and necessary software to complete the role


$100,000 - $120,000 a year
