Position Overview
The Finance team at CommonLit oversees all core and accounting operations across the organization. As a member of the Finance team, the Finance and Accounting Manager oversees tax compliance and corporate registration at the state and local level. The Finance and Accounting Manager oversees the company’s cash management activities and manages the company’s cash position. This role leads the monthly close process and oversees the generation of financial statements and reporting.
Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Corporate Registration
-Support and ensure timely tax compliance and reporting, including preparation and filing of state, local, and other tax forms, registrations, and filings.
-Oversee payroll vendor and accompanying process including the applicable monthly, quarterly and year-end payroll tax forms and filings
-Assist with year-end audit activities, including preparations, PBC list management, auditor correspondence, and Form 990 Filings.
-Oversee vendor management processes including generation of form 1099s
Cash Management
-Oversee daily cash management activities including implementing monetary policy, managing the cash position, debt and short-term investments, liquidity forecast, and bank account administration.
-Analyze and interpret short-term liquidity forecast, funding requirements, and investment reports to make recommendations with respect to borrowings or use of excess cash.
-Review, develop, and maintain current processes related to cash management and banking policies. Develop and implement process improvements using best practices and technical expertise to increase efficiencies and enhance controls.
-Manages letter of credit and bank guarantee requests as needed.
Financial Reporting
-Lead the month end closing process
-Generate monthly, quarterly and annual reports and financial statements; ensure the accuracy and timely distribution of organization’s financial statements
-Support analysis of financial statements and recommendations to business operations
-Advise the Director of Finance on existing and evolving operating/financial issues.
Qualifications
Education requirement
-Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.CPA license preferred
Years of experience requirement
5+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience
Targeted experience requirement(s)
-Experience managing state, local, municipal registration and tax compliance preferred
-Experience in treasury and cash management preferred
Hard Skills
-Advanced knowledge of Excel strongly preferred
-Thorough knowledge of GAAP
-Demonstrated knowledge and skills in accounting and financial software. Experience with Sage Intacct preferred.
-Experience with financial analysis and reporting.
Soft Skills
-Strong project management skills including, critical ability to coordinate and balance multiple projects in a time-sensitive environment, under pressure, and meeting deadlines.
-Adept at planning, organizing and controlling complex processes as well as analyzing moderately complex financial information
-Demonstrates excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize workload and multi-task while maintaining strict attention to detail.
-Strong analytical and organizational skills
-Excellent oral and written communication skills
-General curiosity and inquisitive nature
-Ability to work with others in a team environment; demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative style.
Physical & Additional Requirements
-This role involves prolonged periods sitting/standing at a desk and working on a computer
