The Kathleen Blanco Public Policy Center at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is an independent, interdisciplinary research center and archive engaged in research across a range of topics in public policy. Our core policy areas of focus include education, poverty and economic opportunity, criminal justice reform, health and healthcare, the coast and environment, and governmental ethics.

Responsibilities:

The Communications and Public Affairs Specialist is responsible for:

• Staying engaged across Blanco Center activities to identify content to promote
• Managing newsletter and social media platforms
• Monitoring engagement metrics
• Representing the Blanco Center at meetings with external partners and research sponsors
• Tracking committee meetings/legislation at state and federal levels
• Assisting in developing relationships with grant-making and philanthropic organizations
• Managing media relations

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in communications and public affairs, preferably within a research or nonprofit organization.
• Proficiency in managing newsletters, social media platforms, and digital marketing tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with different teams and stakeholders.

• Knowledge of state and federal legislation and policy developments.

• Experience in building relationships with external partners and research sponsors.
