Communications Coordinator

Position Summary

Our Atlanta, GA office has the opportunity for a Communications Coordinator to join the Firm’s expanding practice. The Communications Coordinator at Ogletree Deakins is responsible for assisting with execution of the firm’s internal and external communications strategies. The person in this role will help develop and disseminate proactive messaging on behalf of the firm’s administrative departments, coordinating with the Communications team and department contacts to ensure regular, timely, and relevant employee-facing communications as well as enhanced employee engagement. They will also support the firm and its attorneys by executing public relations strategies, including media outreach, drafting press releases, and firm accolade submissions. They will support the Communications team by ensuring that messaging is consistent across all channels and executing communications plans. This position may work on a hybrid schedule out of our Atlanta office.

Essential Functions

  • Support Communications team in the execution of the firm’s Communications strategy.
  • External:
    • Assist with sourcing media requests quickly and scheduling interviews.
    • Proactively research and develop media pitches for industry media, national media, and local media in markets where the firm has offices.
    • Regularly read local and national publications, flagging articles pertinent to our practices and developing relationships with relevant reporters.
    • Assist with preparation of press releases that are accurate and detailed with minimal supervision.
    • Support the firm’s accolade program and related surveys.
    • Help maintain the firm’s media lists, contacts, calendars, and earned coverage, ensuring they are accurate and up to date.
  • Internal:
    • Plan, edit, and write strategic communications for various platforms and audiences.
    • Assist with the execution of strategies, plans, and protocols for firm-wide internal communications.
    • Work closely with members of the firm’s Communications team, various departments, and local offices to identify and develop appropriate messaging.
    • Assist with planning and execution of weekly ODConnection internal newsletter.
    • Assist in the design of appealing and effective communications templates using ContactMonkey and/or other design software.
    • Assist in the planning of Town Hall meetings and other engagement activities.
  • Perform any other duties within the communications function, as required.

Requirements

  • 1+ years’ experience in communications.
  • Requires a college degree, preferably in communications, public relations, journalism, creative writing, and/or English.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft applications, including but not limited to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. InDesign, Photoshop, and/or email marketing software experience a plus.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and an ability to provide error-free work products.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
  • Thinks and acts proactively.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Ability to conduct research using Internet databases, media contact databases, awards/accolades websites, among others.
  • Creative thinker.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, where necessary.
