Communications Specialist - Feinstein Center, Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy

Overview:
The Feinstein International Center (FIC) at Tufts University promotes the use of evidence and learning in operational and policy responses to protect and strengthen the lives, livelihoods, and dignity of people affected by or at risk of hunger and humanitarian crises across the globe. The center takes a unique approach combining both academic rigor and practitioner knowledge to support affected communities and the programs that support them. The center works across a range of contexts at risk of hunger and humanitarian crises and receives grants and contracts for international projects and programs.
What You'll Do:
This is a benefits eligible, part-time position at 17.5 hours per week. It is also limited term until June 30, 2024 and partially grant funded and not eligible for severance pay. There is the possibility of renewal with continued funding.
This is an exempt position and salary will be prorated to 17.5 hours.

The Communications Specialist executes communications strategies that promote the goals and mission of the center. The Communication Specialist will handle the below duties:
  • Develop high-quality, effective print materials and messaging, including researching and writing effective communications pieces
  • Create design and layout of publications
  • Research, recommend and implement communications and marketing projects and strategies
  • Develop design and content for website, and develop content and strategies for social media communications
  • Evaluate and report on effectiveness of communications strategies and recommends changes or improvements
  • Support faculty projects, strategy development, and coordinate work with outside vendors and consultants on projects
What We're Looking For:
Basic Requirements:
  • Knowledge and skills as typically acquired by a Bachelor’s degree in related area of study or equivalent and 3 - 5 years of professional communications experience
  • High degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, WordPress, and MailChimp
  • Experience maintaining and growing institutional social media channels, in particular Twitter
  • Experience planning logistics and content for in-person and online events
  • Ability to relate effectively to people across national and cultural boundaries
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree and experience in communications and strategy in education or non-profit setting
