General Purpose
Reporting to a Supervisor in the Department of Student Support Services, the
Coordinator of School Social Workers serves as a liaison between the Department of
Student Support Services, School Social Workers, and building-level administration within Stafford County Public Schools (SCPS). This position is responsible for administering, supervising, coordinating, hiring, and evaluating School Social Workers, including making placement assignments, professional case consultation, clinical supervision, and ongoing professional development.
MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Develops and oversees execution of strategies to meet the needs of students, families, and staff:
- Assigns staff to schools based on enrollment, at-risk population, special education needs, and previous caseload needs.
- Recruit, interview, and recommend prospective school social work staff.
- Support the role of the school social worker within SCPS.
- Develop, support, and maintain guidelines and format for assessments completed for special education evaluations.
- Develop and maintain a budget for School Social Work Services.
- Collaborates with Attendance Coordinator to assess attendance issues and design a strategy for addressing underlying challenges.
- Maintain an effective working relationship with School Social Workers, Attendance Coordinator, school personnel, students, parents, and others concerned with the welfare of students.
- Oversees SCPS compliance with special education and compulsory attendance laws
- Maintains current knowledge of Federal, State, and local special education laws.
- Maintains current knowledge of Federal, State, and local compulsory attendance laws.
- Collaborates with the Attendance Coordinator to ensure that policies and practices related to compulsory attendance laws are implemented.
- Consults with school personnel, parents, students, and community agencies to meet social, emotional, and mental health needs.
- Works cooperatively and collaboratively with school personnel and outside agencies.
- Work collaboratively with other division offices to cultivate resources within the community to meet the needs of students and families.
- Serves as the Fostering Connection liaison and oversees Best Interest Determinations (BIDs)
- Serve as a representative on the Family Assessment and Planning Team with the office of Human Services in Stafford County.
- Collaborate with the Specialized Instructional Support Personnel (SISP) team to support the Division Strategic Plan initiatives such as Student Education Committees, Social Emotional Learning, Crisis teams, Mental Health Services, and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support.
- Oversee training and professional development for School Social Workers
- Observe and evaluate school social workers in accordance with established procedures.
- Develop, plan, and conduct professional development activities for school social workers.
- Establish dates for monthly staff meetings, arrange for speakers, and prepare agendas.
- Provide clinical supervision to school social workers seeking licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
- Provide professional development to school and administrative staff as required.
- Develop and oversee the social work internship program within SCPS including recruitment, interview, and placement of interns and support of field placement supervisors.
- Coordinate coverage for long-term absences of Social Workers.
- Develop and oversee the mentor program for new school social workers.
- Support and demonstrate core values of Stafford County Public Schools
- Engage in ongoing professional development relevant to position.
- Respond to written and oral requests for information promptly and thoroughly.
- Maintain a clean, neat appearance, appropriate to position.
- Maintain a record of appropriate attendance and punctuality.
- Serve as a role model for students, colleagues, and the general public.
- Work in close harmony with colleagues, supervisors, and co-workers.
- Comply with all District and School policies and regulations, including but not limited to guidelines for confidentiality.
- Perform other related duties as required/assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Master of Social Work (MSW) from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited program.
- Holds an unrestricted Licensure as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of Virginia.
- Four (4) years of experience as a School Social Worker.
- Comparable experience outside of a K-12 public education setting will be considered.
- Hold or be eligible for a Pupil Personnel license issued by the Virginia Department of Education with an endorsement as a School Social Worker.
- Preferred: Certification to provide Clinical Supervision in the State of Virginia.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work environment is primarily inside, with moderate noise, temperatures that are primarily inside, and no exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements.
- The work is light work, requiring exertion of up to 20 pounds of force to move or lift objects .
